Permission to Practice or Tryout Form Procedure
1) Who is responsible for obtaining a Permission to Practice or Tryout Form?

Answer:
You as the player are responsible to make sure that you have a signed permission form completed by your local home association.

2) Can I go to an upcoming practice or tryout without the form since I do not have the time to get one filled out before the practice date?

Answer:
Yes. There is a 24 hour grace period to get a form completed. Remember, going to one practice or tryout is acceptable, additional practices or tryouts do require the permission form.

3) What can happen if I do practice or tryout without a permission form from my local home center?

Answer:
You as a player can be suspended by OBA.

4) If I get a permission form to tryout and do make that team, does that mean that I am able to sign their roster and play the season for them?

Answer:
NO. A permission to practice and tryout is just that. You will now need a full release from you local home center or if you played somewhere else last season, a release from that center as well as your home center. However, a center does not have to provide a release. Some centers do not know until the start of the season if they will have enough players to form a team. They may wait to evaluate their position before issuing any releases. See the player release section of the web site for more information.

5) If I have a permission to practice and tryout form already completed for one center but decide to tryout for another center, do I have to obtain another form.

Answer:
Yes. These permission forms are specific to each individual center.

6) What if I have not received a response to my email from the signing officer responsible for releases from my local affiliate or the affiliate the child played for last year?

Answer:
The association has 7 days from the time the email was sent to respond. If you get no response send an email to the President of SPBA and Secretary that you have received no response and they will follow up.

Release Procedure Questions and Answers
1) Who is responsible for obtaining a release?

Answer:
The player / players parents are responsible for obtaining the proper release from their local (home) center.

2) If I have played for another center (other than my home center) last season and would like to move to a different center, who do I get the release from.

Answer:
The new ruling from OBA this year is that you need to get a release from both; the center you played with last season AND you local home center.

3) What if my home center does not have a team for my age group this season?

Answer:
You are still required to obtain a release from your local home center.

4) What if my home center and or center I played with last season will not give me a release to play elsewhere.

Answer:
You have the right to a hearing from your local Affiliated Association (SPBA). All evidence from the hearing will be submitted to Baseball Ontario (OBA). If your release is not approved by your local Affiliate (SPBA) you will then have the right to notify the OBA office to present your case to the OBA Board of Directors for their final decision.

5) Do I have to obtain a release each year?

Answer:
NO if you are staying with the same center again or you are going back to you local home center.

6) What if I do not obtain a release but play for another team?

Answer:
The player will be open to suspension from the OBA as well as the coach and or manager for the team you are playing for.

7) What if I have not received a response to my email from the signing officer responsible for releases from my local affiliate or the affiliate the child played for last year?

Answer:
The association has 7 days from the time the email was sent to respond. If you get no response send an email to the President of SPBA and Secretary that you have received no response and they will follow up.

SPBA and OBA have created rules for releases to ensure that fair practice is in place for all centers to protect their associations and the players that live within their boundaries.
If you have any other questions or concerns about releases, please contact one of your local Affiliate Reps.
