Code of Coduct
WCAA Parent Responsibilities & Code of Ethics
Athletes and coaches will not be able to perform at their best if parents do not have a clear understanding of the philosophies of the
youth athletic program. The following is a guideline for parents.
1. Don’t be a coach, be a parent. As a parent your job is to offer encouragement and positive reinforcement. A sure way to dampen
your child’s enthusiasm is with constant criticism. Understand the daily pressures a child faces. Youth athletics should be an outlet and
place for a player to have fun. Encourage your child and allow him or her to have a good time.
2. Support your coaches. Parents should support the coaches, as long as they follow proper coaching guidelines. Parents should
understand that most coaches are volunteers. It is inappropriate for a parent to coach a player who is on the field or contradict a coach’s
instructions. Not only does it devalue the coach, it also confuses the player.
3. Be a good sport. Remember that your child learns more from your actions than your words. Practice good sportsmanship by being
respectful to players, parents, officials and coaches on both teams. Parents should not embarrass their child by calling attention to
themselves through loud or rude behavior. Remember that everything you do or say can be heard by up to 100 seven, eight and nine
year old children. Let’s not teach them that it is acceptable to publicly yell, disparage and argue with other adults. Game & League
Officials have the authority to ask unruly spectators to leave the fields.
4.Be on time. Players that are late or absent to practices may lose playing time in games. Parents should help their children realize that
belonging to a team requires commitment. Regular attendance and being prepared are necessary for the team to function smoothly.
5. Fundraising. Registration fees do not cover all of the costs of running a Sports Program. In order to keep the fees reasonable, each
child is asked to participate in fundraising activities. Please help the team by turning in all fundraising collections by the specified time.
6. Volunteer. Parents should volunteer their services whenever possible. This shows the participants the value of being a team player.
There are many volunteer opportunities beyond coaching and Team Parenting. Ask one of the Team Moms what is needed.

Coaches Code of Conduct
1. Be positive, and constructive with the children on your team. This is a recreational league that promotes fun and
growth through the sports of Baseball and Softball.
2. There will be no smoking or use of tobacco on the playing field or in the dugouts. During a game, a manager or
coach may not leave the playing field except in an emergency.
3. Managers, coaches, and/or players will not be permitted to throw their hats, bats, gloves, helmets, etc. or commit
any other acts of unsportsmanlike conduct. A violation may result in ejection from the game. If a player or coach
has two ejections, he must sit out an additional game.
4. Any suggestion or complaint from coaches or parents must be in writing following the chain of command (to Player Agent, then Committee Chairman) and a meeting of the WCAA Baseball & Softball Committee will be called for discussion.
5. Umpire abuse by coaches, players or parents will not be tolerated. The penalties could be ejection and possible suspension or expulsion from the park. This determination shall be governed by WCAA Baseball & Softball rules.
6. Managers, players, and spectators will not be permitted to ride, harass, or interfere in any way with the opposing team or umpires during play. Managers and coaches will do everything in their power to assist in controlling the conduct of their team and fans. The manager will be prohibited from making gestures or dislike and criticism to
the stands concerning the umpires. All discussions should be away from the fans and players and concern only the manager and the umpire. If the umpire is unable to control the fans, he may eject the person or persons from the stands.
7. Each team manager will be responsible for the eligibility, training, and conduct of the players and families of the players on his team.
8. All parents and spectators will conduct themselves in a manner as to reflect good sportsmanship. Any conduct not in the best interest of WCAA Baseball & Softball may be cause for expulsion and banning of a player's parents or spectators from further presence at a league game or function. Failure to adhere to a penalty so enacted may be cause for suspension or dismissal of a player from the league. A suspension or expulsion of a parent or spectator will require a two-thirds majority vote of the WCAA Baseball & Softball Committee.
9. Any coach or player being ejected from a game may appeal to the WCAA Baseball & Softball Committee. Any decision the Board renders shall be final.
10. Parents, coaches, player, and umpires must sign a copy of the code of conduct rules.
11. Sportsmanship: Coaches will not disparage, insult, degrade, demean or mistreat any player, parent, league official or referee in any way. This is a recreational program and as coaches you must set the proper example for your players and parents. If told to leave by a game official, you must leave the playing area immediately. An ejected coach will have to be reinstated by the Baseball & Softball Committee before being allowed to participate in practices or games again. Youth Athletics can be very emotional. Please stay in control at all times.
12. And, of course, Coaching! This is a recreational program, so teach your kids the fundamentals and strategy of your sport in a fun and instructional atmosphere. No need for any boot camps. Please remember that all players must play a percentage of each game mandated by the Player Agent(s) as long as they come to practices and are willing participants. You do not have to make a player go into a game if they do not want to.
