Required Equipment - Boy's Youth Teams Grades 1-8

Stick – All players must have a regulation stick. The most important thing is to have a well-formed pocket. Sticks off-the-shelf at typical sporting goods stores rarely have this and in some cases the mesh they use is not capable of forming an ideal pocket. We suggest spending less on the stick itself, but then having a custom strung pocket done. This will cost about an additional $25.00 for the custom stringing.

Required safety equipment:

• Helmet – white is preferred
• Shoulder pads
• Arm pads
• Gloves
• Mouthpiece
• Cleats – soccer type are fine
• Protective cup – not required, but highly recommended
• Equipment bag – this makes storing and transporting your gear easier
• Water Bottle – the “squirt-type” are best so that you don’t always need to remove your helmet to get a drink.

We recommend purchasing lacrosse gear at:

Universal Lacrosse Company
41 S RT 206
Raritan, NJ 08869

Phone: 908-526-0584

They can provide you with expert service and will make sure you are purchasing the correct size and type of equipment. Please check our "Documents' tab where you will find a flier about an equipment package that is available at Universal.

Used equipment can sometimes be found on Ebay or Craig's list, but you really need to know what you are buying. Will it fit correctly? Is it safe and in good shape? Do you really want your son wearing gear that someone else sweat all over?

The gear can appear to be somewhat expensive, but it will typically last several years and we have several program per year that your son might choose to participate in. If you look at it that way and amortize the cost over 2-3 years with 2-3 programs per year it might not seem so be such a big investment.
