PLAYOFF RESULTS

CHICORA LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

#3 Armstrong Beer / Countyline Tavern vs. #1 Bachelors II (Bachelors II won series 3-2)

Bachelors II took a 4-1 lead through 4 innings but Armstrong put 7 runs on the board in the fifth, then tacked 5 more on in the 6th & 7th innings to win Game 1 of the CLCS, 13-4. Kenny Bussard pitched for the victory & led the way offensively with a double & 2 singles. Keith Clark had 2 doubles and Matt Shaffer & John Szymanowski each added 2 singles for Armstrong. Andrew Larimore was Bachelors II's only player with 2 hits, he had 2 singles. Joe Callihan homered for B II. Game 2 will be at 6:15 Thursday, August 15 at St. Patrick's.

Armstrong Beer scored 1 run in the 1st inning & 1 run in the 2nd and that proved to be all it needed to win Game 2, outlasting Bachelors II, 2-1. Jeremy DeLuca was the lone Armstrong player with 2 hits with a double & a single, he also scored what proved to be the winning run. Cory Franscheschi added a single for Armstrong. Eric McCue had 2 singles for Bachelors II and Rick Belles added a double. Kenny Bussard was the winning pitcher. Game 3 will be at 4:00 Sunday, August 18 at St. Patrick's. Game 4, if needed, will be immediately following.

In Game 3, Bachelors II came from behind in the 2nd inning with 3 runs to take a 5-3 lead. They held on to the lead the rest of the game, winning 10-5. Jason Kelley & Rick Belles each had 2 singles to lead Bachelors II. Armstrong Beer outhit Bachelors II, 12-9. Leading the way was Matt Shaffer with a homerun & a single, Keith Clark with a homerun, Bo Bowser with 2 doubles, and Kenny Bussard added 2 singles. Chris Bellis was the winning pitcher. Game 4 was played immediately after Game 3.

In Game 4, Bachelors II had a 4-2 lead going into the bottom of the 5th inning, but Armstrong/Countyline scored 6 runs on 2 outs to take an 8-4 lead. The inning was highlighted by a Bo Bowser inside the park homerun with 2 men on, Matt Shaffer & Lee Solada also drove in runs in the inning. But Bachelors II answered with 4 runs in the top of the 6th inning to tie the game at 8-8. Keith Lehman had an RBI single, and Jason Kelley & Doug Augustine each had "pinch hit" RBI's in the inning. In the top of the 7th, Bachelors tacked on 4 more, Armstrong managed 1 in the bottom of the inning & Bachelors held on for the 12-9 win. Eric McCue led the way for B II with a double & 2 singles, and Lehman had an inside the park homerun & a single. Jim Harmon had a double & single while Travis Bellis added 2 singles. For Armstrong, Brad Bothell was 4 for 4 with 2 doubles & 2 singles, Bowser added 2 singles to his inside the parker, and Lee Solada & Matt Shaffer each chipped in 2 singles. Chris Bellis got the win on the pitcher's mound. The deciding Game 5 of the CLCS will be Tuesday, August 20 at St. Patrick's at 6:15.

Bachelors II completed the comeback, after being down 2-0 in the series when Eric McCue broke a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the 6th inning with a 2-run, 2-out double. Tyler Callihan followed it with another double & Rick Belles had an RBI single to boost Bachelors to a 9-4 Game 5 victory. McCue led B II with a triple, double, & single, Travis Bellis had 2 doubles, Callihan had a double & a single, and Boo Augustine added 2 singles. For Armstrong, Bo Bowser had 2 doubles, and DJ Kutch, Logan Atwood, & Goose Johns each had 2 singles. Chris Bellis was the winning pitcher. Each team had 11 hits. It is Bachelors II's sixth Chicora League Championship, one in 1997 as the Chestnut St. Inn, 4 from 2006 to 2010 as the Last Laff, and this is the first under Bachelors II's sponsorship.

SEMI-FINALS

#3 Armstrong Beer / Countyline Tavern vs. #2 Ball's Distributor (Armstrong won series 2-1)

Armstrong / Countyline topped Ball's Dist. 10-3 in Game 1 of their Semi-Final Series. Kenny Bussard led the way both offensively and on the pitchers mound, hitting 3 singles and pitching for the win. John Rupp doubled and singled and Richie Toy had 2 singles for Armstrong. Nick Morrow and Mitch Czech each had 2 singles for Ball's. Game 2 will be Wednesday, August 7 at St. Patrick's, 6:15 starting time.

Ball's forced a deciding Game 3 by beating Armstrong 11-2 in Game 2. Mike Dorondo hit a homerun and a single, Heath Schreffler had 2 doubles & a single, and Nathan Markle had 2 doubles for Ball's Distributor. Billy Yusko earned the win on the pitchers mound, throwing a 3-hitter. Kenny Bussard was 2 for 2 with a homerun and a single for Armstrong.

Armstrong won Game 3 by a score of 11-10. Armstrong took an early 7-1 lead after Ball's left several runners on base the first few innings. Then Ball's rallied in the 4th inning to tie the game at 7. Armstrong answered with 4 in the top of the 5th. Then, Ball's plated 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th to make it 11-10. Richie Toy led the way at the plate for Armstrong with a homerun & 2 singles. Bo Bowser had 3 singles, and Matt Shaffer hit a triple & a homerun. Nick Morrow & Mike Dorondo each had 3 singles for Ball's Distributor while Heath Schreffler added 2 singles. Kenny Bussard pitched for the win. Armstrong/Countyline will advance to the Chicora League Championship Series against Bachelors II. Game 1 will be Tuesday, August 13 at St. Patrick's, 6:15 start time.

#5 Chicora VFW vs. #1 Bachelors II (Bachelors II won series 2-0)

Bachelors II rallied from a 5-3 deficit in the bottom of the 5th to take a 10-5 lead, then tacked 1 more on in the 6th en route to an 11-5 victory in Game 1 of this Semi-Final matchup. Tyler Callihan homered and doubled, Eric McCue & Doug Augustine each singled 3 times, and Joe Callihan chipped in 2 singles to lead the B II. For VFW, Tyler Slepski doubled twice and Joey Friel had 3 singles. Chris Bellis was the winning pitcher. Game 2 will be Tuesday, August 6 at St. Patrick's, 6:15 start.

Bachelors II wrapped up the series with a 23-15 victory over Chicora VFW in this Semi-Final matchup. Leading the way for B II was Eric McCue with an inside the park homerun, a double, & a single; Travis Bellis with a triple, 2 doubles, & a single; Andrew Larimore with a double & 2 singles; and Chris Dietrich with 3 singles. Top hitters for VFW were Eric Young with a homerun & a single; Joey Friel with a triple, double, & single; Dave Hohn with a triple & a double; and Luke Slater with 3 singles. Doug Augustine picked up the win on the pitcher's mound. Bachelors II will advance to the championship series for the first time since 2010.

FIRST ROUND

#5 Chicora VFW vs. #4 Millerstown Inn (Chicora VFW won series 2-1)

Millerstown Inn took an early lead in Game 1 of this first round playoff series, going up 7-0 before Chicora VFW got on the board. The final score was 12-5 in Millerstown's favor. Sluggo Smith and Derek Hays led the way with a homerun apiece. Tyler Slepski homered for VFW. Dave Craig picked up the win on the pitchers mound for Millerstown Inn. Game 2 will be Tuesday, July 30 at St. Wendelin's at 6:30.

Chicora VFW evened the series at 1-1, winning Game 2 by a score of 12-4. Leading the way for VFW was Tyler Slepski with a triple and a double. Adam Steiner, Eric Young, and Dalton Koebler each doubled and singled. Sluggo Smith hit a homerun for Millerstown Inn. Dustin Defrancisis was the winning pitcher. The deciding Game 3 will be Thursday at St. Wendelins. Reminder: all games in August start at 6:15.

In extra-innings, Chicora VFW plated 3 runs in the top of the 8th and held off a Millerstown Inn rally in the bottom of the inning to win Game Three, 12-10. Millerstown had scored 3 in the bottom of the 7th to take the game into extra-innings. Luke Slater had an inside the park homerun, a single, and 5 RBI's for VFW. Dylan O'Donnell had a double and a single, and Adam Steiner & Joey Friel each added 2 singles. For Millerstown, Erik Fuhrer homered and Dave Craig had 2 singles. Dustin Defrancisis pitched for the win. Chicora VFW will advance to the Semi-Finals to face Bachelors II. The two teams split their games against each other in the regular season, each winning 2.

#6 Kittanning Eagles vs. #3 Armstrong Beer / Countyline Tavern (Armstrong/Countyline won series 2-0)

Armstrong Beer / Countyline Tavern won Game 1 of this first round playoff series 12-3. DJ Kutch was the top performer at the plate for Armstrong with a homerun and a triple. Jared Dunlap added a double & a single, and Brad Myers chipped in 2 singles. Kenny Bussard was the winning pitcher. Game 2 will be Wednesday at St. Patrick's.

Armstrong Beer / Countyline Tavern won Game 2 of this series as well, 15-9. Armstrong advances to the Chicora Area Softball League Semi-Finals for the 21st consectutive year (every year they've been in the league). Leading the way for Amstrong was Matt Shaffer with a homerun, triple, and double. John Rupp and John Szymankoski each added 3 singles. For Kittanning Eagles, Jeff Goodman had a double and 2 singles. Kenny Bussard pitched for the win. Armstrong will play Ball's Distributor next week in the Semi-Finals.

#7 Herman Mini-Mart vs. #2 Ball's Distributor (Ball's Dist. won series 2-0)

Ball's Distributor won Game 1 of this first round playoff series 23-13. Top hitters for Ball's Dist. were Nathan Markle who was 4 for 4 with 2 homeruns & a double, Heath Schreffler went 4 for 5 including a double, and Anthony Slater added a homerun. For Herman Mini-Mart, Jake Bauer was 4 for 5 with a double, & Ryan Rekich chipped in 3 singles. Ryan "Pud" Protzman was the winning pitcher. Game 2 will be Wednesday at St. Wendelin's.

Ball's Distributor swept the first round playoff series over Herman Mini-Mart, winning Game 2 by a score of 22-12 and advancing to the Chicora Area Softball League Semi-Finals for the 3rd straight year. Nathan Markle led the way, going 5 for 6 with 2 homeruns, Mitch Czech was 5 for 5 with 6 RBI's, and Sammy Wiley added a homerun & 2 singles. For Herman, Austin Kriley and Adam Gregory each had 4 singles. Billy Yusko got the win on the pitcher's mound. Ball's Dist. will play Armstrong Beer next week in the Semi-Finals.
