Knight at The Races.....

May 1, 2010

was a huge success for our Council! The turnout was pretty good, as 48 Knights and friends of Knights came out to support our Council, on this fun filled evening. I would like to thank all of our participants (Jockey”s), who volunteered and Rode Their Horses to the finish line. Some of the Horses may never be the same.
The food, as usual, was great, thanks to John Puma.
I would also like to thank everyone for their generous support on this evening. After almost a 2 year hiatus, the Knight at the Races returned and made a profit of $1150.00; $500.00 of which we donated for the raffle chances to Father Charlie, our Chaplain, for his continued good works in Africa.
Finally I would like to thank Andrew Kovach, Kevin Cadigan and Marty Kovach for all their help, (handling of the bets and payouts). Also, I would be remiss to not thank Candy Kovach and Barbara Monahan for their help in getting and wrapping the Raffle Prizes.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS #430 PITCH N' PUTT GOLF OUTING Was A Huge Success This Year !!!

On June 2, 2009 we had the most successful golf outing ever.
37 Golfers came to Flushing Meadow Park, and had a great time.
One lucky, I mean highly skilled golfer, recorded a Hole-in-One,
our new Chaplain, Father Charlie. CONRATULATIONS !!!!
And Nine additional Brother Knights participated in the Dinner
and festivities after Golf. The weather cooperated with us, as it
stopped raining about 4:300 PM. It was good to see so many guys
from the Council participating in this fund-raiser, and help make it
the success that it was. As our Council raised, a very much needed $1500.00.....

I would like to thank the following Knights, who made my evening
very easy. First to our chef Brzozowski, who barbequed the Rib Eye
Steaks to perfection, about 46 of them. And to Tom Kobel, Andrew
Kovach, Ricky Monahan, and Anthony Baffo, {he just signed his
form #100 that night}, who ran the Steaks & Potatoes down to all
our hungry guests. And a special thanks to Martin Kovach, who
washed all the dirty plates and silverware....

Thank you to our $25.00 Hole Sponsors

Financials....boring, but needed!

April 23, 2010
Following are a couple of items that will have to be voted on at the Council meeting on April 13:
First
The sum of $500 be allocated to support our Chaplain, Father Charlie, and the Long Island University Newman Club?s charity of assisting the mission in Arusha, Tanzania. The mission pro-vides housing, schooling and health care to children abandoned by families.
Second
The Council has funds invested in Mutual Funds, that during the recent economic downturn, fluctuated drastically. In order to manage the risk of our portfolio and provide a reliable stream of income to support our charitable gifts, it is resolved that at any given time 85% of our funds be invested in bond and other in-come objective investments and 15% invested for growth.
PGK Note
Recently a Finance Committee was formed at our council. We reviewed our holdings and felt we could generate more income while protecting our capital if we reallocated our funds into safer investments. We propose to move funds into a muni bond or other income producing fund and leave 15% or less in more growth oriented funds (currently 50% are in income funds and the rest in growth funds) Our main goal is to be able to continue and increase our charitable works without relying solely on our current income from dues and fundraisers, remembering charity as our First Principle. I hope you will support us in this project and vote for this proposal at our next business meeting.

Fraternally, Thomas Kobel, PGK, Finance Committee Chair
