November & December Upper League
  1. Game Rules D and J Divisions -  Please Use a 28.5” basketball.

a.    An adult should run the digital scoreboard to keep games on schedule on the hour every hour. Respect the drop dead time on the hour.

b.     Games are made up of four 8-minute running clock quarters. 5 minute break for halftime. Clock is kept on the sideline by a parent. Use digital game and score clocks provided. Total game time should be approximately 45 minutes (includes timeouts factored in there) with transition allowed between games.
*Stop Clock last minute of game if score is within 3 points. 

c.     Two 30 sec timeouts allowed per game.

d.     ½ Court Man-to-man defense Only – Defense should pick up at the 3point line extended. No double teams except in the key area - Teams should line up before each quarter and identify who they are guarding. If a team only has a few subs, then they may sub at dead balls and ask the ref to hold the ball.
*Coaches can help players match-up, but it is encourage for defenses to learn to talk to one another who is guarding who.

e.     Jump ball to start the game

f.      One coach/parent for each team may be on the court to coach and referee the game.

g.     Fouls & Violations - traveling, etc. are whistled only as required to keep the game under control and can maintain possession and used as a teaching tool. Starting week 4 referees will change possession on all violations.

h.     Shoot 2 free throws on a shooting foul – have shooter stand at free throw line or 1’ in front, depending upon ability *

i.       All players are to get equal playing time unless your roster is 9 players or less or for disciplinary reasons.

j.      All other rules are based on high school rules and enforcement will be gauged on player’s ability and grade level. Coaches should meet before game and discuss how tight or how loose the game will be refereed.

 

  1. Game Rules A, B, C, G and H Divisions - Please Use a 28.5” basketball.
    1. Same as above with the follow additions
    2. 1 man full-court press allowed with a 10 point lead or less.
    3. 20 minute running clock halves. Clock stops for last 2 minutes of game with a 10 point lead or less.
    4. Fouls & Violations – Change of possession will occur
    5. Coaches should meet before game and discuss how tight or how loose the game will be refereed. If both coaches would like to full court press with a 10 point lead or less, this can be decided before the game based on team match ups and player ability level.
    6. Any player(s) that are involved in fighting, unsportsmanlike conduct, swinging punches etc. will be ejected from play for that game.
 
January & February Lower League K-3
  1. Game rules specific to B, C, & J (K & 1st Grade)
    1. Halfcourt 3 on 3 8’ rims.  2 games will go on a single full court. No score is kept. Use a 27.5” basketball.
    2. Games are made up of two 16 minute halves. The halves are broken down into four 4-minute rotations for your players. 5 minute break for halftime. Total game time should be approximately 45 minutes.
    3. Two 30 sec timeouts allowed per game. There will be a running clock except for timeouts and injuries.
    4. Man-to-man defense Only – no double teams except in the key - teams will line up before each period and identify who is guarding who.
    5. *The defender may not steal the ball from the offensive player off the dribble or rip it from the offensive players hands. We want to develop good defensive position and help the offensive player learn to dribble. The ball may be stolen on the pass or shot block.
    6. When defense gets a rebound they can “take it back” by freely bringing the ball past the 3 point line and then may return to score a basket. This concept takes awhile to sink in and if it doesn’t happen just remind the players.
    7. Inbounds are taken at top of 3 point arc
    8. Rock, paper, scissors to determine opening possession. One coach for each team may be on the court to coach and referee the game.
    9. Fouls, traveling, etc. are whistled only as required to keep the game under control and doesn’t change possession until halfway through the season if both coaches agree on that.

  2. Game rules specific to A, G, & H Divisions (Grades 2nd & 3rd )
    1. 5 on 5 9’ Rims for 2nd Grade Boy’s League. Girl’s 2nd 8' and Girl's 3rd are 9’ rims. Games are made up of four 8 minute quarters – Running clock except for timeouts, injuries and free throws.
    2. Use a 27.5” basketball.
    3. ½ Court Man-to-man defense only. Defense will pick up offensive player at the 3-point line extended or an agreed upon line before the game. – No double teams except in the key - Teams will line up before each period and identify who is guarding who
    4. Shoot free throws on a shooting foul – have shooter stand at free throw line or 1’ in front, depending upon ability. Rock paper scissors to start the game for possessions – all other possession changes are side outs
    5. 3 timeouts per game. 
    6. All players are to get equal playing time unless your roster is 9 players or less or for disciplinary reasons.
    7. Digital Score Board and Clocks to be used for full court games Only. 
    8. *Lopside Score Rule at 15 ....don’t continue to add points with a 15 point spread
    9.   All other rules are based on high school rules and enforcement will be gauged on player’s ability and grade level, e.g. 2nd graders should be stopped and taught then handed the ball back to them.
