Retired Numbers

#17 Chad Christopher Susens

The circular sign you will find in the left-centerfield area of Ted Whereatt Baseball Field was constructed in 1995 by members of the Vipers in memory of long time friend and teammate, Chad Susens, who passed away on May 19, 1991. It was Chad’s dream, as well as our’s, to start our own amateur baseball team in Superior. We are sure that Chad is happy for our success, but only wish he could have been with us to see our dream come true. To honor our friend, Chad’s number 17 will never to worn by a member of the Vipers.

He will always be remembered.
C.C.S. 1973-1991

#1 Gary "Gus" Gustafson

If somewhere people are talking about baseball, chances are Gus is not too far away. Gus had been part of some of the Vipers’ players baseball lives for almost 20 years, and to each one of those players, he will never be forgotten. Gary Gustafson passed away in March, 2000, after five years in the Vipers organization. His always positive attitude, kindheartedness, and outstanding knowledge of the game, will forever be missed.

Thank you for everything you have taught us, Gus. The Vipers will never be the same without you.

Gus 1942-2000
