    Draft Rules
    CLOVER PARKS & RECREATION
    DRAFT SELECTION RULES
    YOUTH BASEBALL

    1. The players returning from the previous spring season can return to the same team in the same age group or enter the draft.
    2. The age cutoff date will be May 1 of the present year.
    3. Any player that moves up in an age group must enter the draft.
    4. Any player that is returning to a team from the previous season does not need to attend the draft.
    5. The draft selection order will be composed by the recreation department based on number of players returning, standings from the previous season, and strength of the team. This order will be at the sole discretion of the recreation department.
    6. The players in the draft will go through a skills assessment with various drills based on what the coaches are looking for. The picks can start as soon as the skill assessment begins.
    7. Each coach will be given a draft order list and a list of players available in the draft. Each player will have a number so the coaches can easily identify the players. Please do not single out any players and do not let the players know the order they were drafted.
    8. There will be a time limit on the skill assessment. If all players have not been chosen by the time limit, the player will be relieved and the coaches will go to the office to continue the draft until all players have been selected.
    9. Any players that are not present at the skills assessment will be drawn from a box at the end of the draft for their placement. The coaches will be given the option to place as many draft picks in the box as there are no shows for the draft. (Ex. There are 3 players that have not shown up for the draft. The coaches of the last three picks of the players that are present can either choose from the three remaining players or put their pick in the box. So there can be up to six players to choose from in the box.)
    10. Any players that signs up after the skills assessment will be placed on a team by the recreation department based on need of players and strength of team.
    11. A coach is guaranteed their child(ren), or the player that is the reason they are coaching, on the team. (Ex. An aunt is coaching because of her niece)
    12. Assistant coaches must be picked after the draft. Players are not placed on teams based on who will be the assistant coach. All players except for the #1 and #11 rule must enter the draft.
    13. The recreation department reserves the right to redraft all players if deemed necessary.
