13 U D Rays win AAU National Bid at their first tournament
13U D Rays win AAU National Bid Div 1 or 2 with a 3rd place. Great Job Players for our first time out and only a few practices outside.
D Rays go 4-0 and make it to the semi finals before taking a heart breaking, hard fought lost vs Lanco Cobras Blue in extra innings using the international tie breaker rules 6-5 in 8 innings.
By the way, after that game many Lanco parents approached me and said that they had never seen a team all tournament hit like our team hit. They said that they felt fortunate to get past our team because our team was the best hitting team as well as pitching team that they played by far.

13-U Winter workout schedule
After pricing team and pitching workouts both with the Hit Dr in WT and Sportz Central, we have decided to workout with the Hit Dr. Although we feel that both places have excellent instructors and programs, the Hit Dr was willing to reduce their prices for our team. Because we are trying to minimize costs to our players we chose the Hit Dr. Hopefully that is acceptable to all. Here is what they proposed for dates, times and costs.
We will get 10 hitting workouts for 1 hour and 10 pitching workouts for 1 hour. The first 5 workouts for each will be run by the Hit Dr instructors and the second 5 workouts each will be run by our staff.
Hitting 10 1 hr workouts will cost $10/player per session for a total of $100. Please pay $20 for every instructed hitting workout and then you would receive 1 free workout with our staff after the first 5 sessions. You may also pay $100 in advance for all 10 sessions.
Pitching 10 1 hr workouts will cost $10/player per session for a total of $100. Please pay $20 for every instructed pitching workout and then you would receive 1 free workout with our staff after the first 5 sessions. You may also pay $100 in advance for all 10 sessions.
Friday, Feb 10 from 6 to 7 pm for hitting.
Saturday, Feb 11 from 4-5 pm for pitching.
Then
Every Friday 7-8 hitting, 8-9 pitching
Feb 17, 24, March 3, 10
Any questions call my cell 856-371-2729 or call if you can't attend.

Parents and Players....Make sure you understand what type of schedule we...
...are trying to have.
Communication is important!
I know I mentioned some of this at the parent meeting as well as individually, however I want to make sure we are all on the same page.
It is the team's objective to have players who will play as Jersey Devil Rays (D Rays)as their first priority over intramurals or in-town and Districts. Most players are not playing intramurals at all. Those programs should be played as a supplement to the D Rays, to play with some friends or to get an extra at bat or two in whenever we are not playing.
We are facilitating the Del Val League to recruit competitve teams to play during the week as well as Saturdays (sometimes Sundays). Our goal would be to play 2 games during the week between Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and play a double header every Saturday. Tournament baseball will be included approximately at a minimum of once per month. Dates and locations have not been confirmed at this point and will be annouced asap.
Registration is $200 down then $200 on Feb 15. We need to purchase the proper insurances, order uniforms and pay for a couple AAU National Qualifying tournaments to start. Fundraising would then help with the remaing costs. Our budget could be 10k to 12k. You do the math, we will still need to fundraise to complete the budget and everyone will be expected to participate.
The first tournament will be March 18 weekend in Salisbury, MD. This is close to Ocean City, MD. Our tournament schedule will be designed to seek out the best competition available and put the team in position to qualify for AAU Nationals in Myrtle Beach, SC during the end of July. The Del Val League winner would also qualify for Nationals in Michigan also at the end of July. Hopefully we will have to make a choice on which tournament we want to go to by being eligible for both because we qualified. Now, if we do not get as many games scheduled with the Del Val League during the week then maybe we schedule individual games with high caliber teams and/or go to additional tournaments to get the games in.
OK, now let's talk about Middle School. I do expect to have players participating in Middle School Baseball programs. The exact amount I will not know until we pick the team. We will allow the players to serve their Middle School teams during April and May. However the are expected to come to the D Ray games immediately following their Middle School game. I will not be rescheduling our D Ray games for conflicts and will start the games with 8 players until more arrive. We have been through the type of schedule in the past and everything worked out perfectly. Middle School players will turn in their schedules asap so we will know when they will be attending late.
The D Ray philosophy regarding playing time is there are no gaurantees. Our objective is to try to find a way to have everyone get time, most of the time. Individual single games during the week give us the biggest challenge and it will be hard during close games to play everyone. The benefit of double headers is helps give more innings to split. It will benefit the team to arrive focused and win the first pitch, first out, first inning etc, etc, in order to get everyone playing time by being ahead eraly in each game.
I know it isn't cheap for everyone to join our team and I will do everything possible to provide and great service and program to your players and families. This should help clarify some information inorder for each player to make a decision when asked to join the team.
Respectfully,
Coach Mario

10 Tips From Phillies Hitting Coach, Milt Thompson
1. Have Fun - It's just a game 2. See the ball - Hit the ball 3. See the ball - Catch the ball 4. Relax - Step, and Throw 5. You Hit with your hands - Not your body 6. Trust your hands - Let the ball get to the front of the plate 7. Let the game come to you - Don't force it 8. Practice the way you play - Game speed 9. Trust your natural ability 10. Your goal is to have more hits than games played

We have the ability to be a good team. How good depends on how you come together as a team. NOW!... Not in a month or two. We could reach goals that you have never dreamed of before.
When we annouce the upcoming winter workouts, I will expect nothing else but 100% effort and positive attitude. Championships are won the first day of practice by coming out and laying it all out on the line. What ever effort you have, I want to see it used up. Sure you going to make mistakes. What is important is how you deal with the mistakes. With a positive attitude. When you see your teammate makes a mistake, tell him "Don't worry about it, get 'em next time, you can do it!!!... It is this type of attitude that will seperate us apart from our competition. Our HUSTLE at practice and at games will be second to none. We will out hustle everyone, every game, every inning, every out, every pitch and at every practice.
I am pumped up for the challenge to take you guys as far as you want. The sky is the limit. You have to go for it, all the time. You must make it a habit, a mental strength that you can dig deep and win games especially when you are behind. We will build mental strength.
Looking forward to getting to practice to start having some fun with all the players to try to bring out the best in each and everyone of you.
Good Luck this season!
