5th Grade Players and Parents
Thank you for your interest in GCAA Travel Basketball. On Wed Oct 7th, a try was held at St. Paul's and evaluations were done by 2 youth AAU coaches without a child in the Garden City Schools and a basketball evaluator without a child in the grade. The average ratings of these 3 evaluators were calculated and teams were formed based upon these ratings.
Given the competitive nature of the Island Garden League we play in, our limited court time and the number of children attending the try out, we could not take every player. Try outs are not an exact science although three indpendent evaluators certainly ensure the process is fair. Within GCAA Travel Basketball, there is a try out every year and there is typically movement from one team to another based upon a player's performance at the try out.
For those kids not making a team, GCAA has a strong intramural program and we would encourage you to sign up and play GCAA intramurals, improve your skills and try out in future years.
