Parents,
I would like to introduce myself to you. My name is Howard Johnson and I am the 2009 Athletic Director. I have been involved with the La Porte Texans and Darlings organization since 1981 and have served in many different coaching and board positions. My wife Ann and I have 2 children who support me as they understand this is my hobby. I truly enjoy this position and I receive great pleasure in watching these kids participate. Although I don’t have any children in the organization at this time, this organization means a great deal to me as do the kids in this program. I have a grandson playing this year, one who played all the way through his senior year, and I have many adopted grandkids on both the football and the drill teams. The darlings are a very integral part of our club and we support one another.
My goal is to teach your child the fundamentals of football while making sure that his time involved with this league is an enjoyable one. The Board of Directors, my coaching staff, and myself, want your child to learn good sportsmanship and self- confidence. Our children are facing tough times in this day and age and face many obstacles. I believe that football will help them through any situation that they may incur. I believe that involvement in sports and other activities help children to make the right decisions and stay out of trouble. We want the Texan/Darling participants to grow up to be Bulldogs/Chatos/or Cheerleaders and most of all good citizens.
I am very excited to say that we are committed to try our best to have another successful season. I have a great group of coaches this year that are ready to make it happen. The Texan/Darling organization received many awards last year for excellence. If at any time during the season, you have questions or concerns, please speak with your head coach. If you still need assistance, feel free to contact me to address them. All I ask is that you do it away from the players and not during our practice time. We only have an hour and a half with your child and need to utilize that time. Thank you for the opportunity to work with your child.
