A Quote From Our Own

Winter Workouts
January 1, 2008 --
Now that the New Year is here, I would like to talk about how to make a winner. We have all seen the player that during the game is fearless, or makes a big play in a big spot, which seems like every time. What makes that player play like that? What makes Jessica Mendoza, Jennie Finch and Stacey Nuveman some of the greatest players in our game today? Some people think it is on just talent alone. If you would ask any great player what it is that makes them play so well, I think you would find a very similar answer across the board. Work harder then anyone else is. Those great players just don't wake up during the season, grab their bat and glove and become a great player. The time is now, during the pre-season. This is the foundation for a great season. You need to go to your winter workouts and work harder then anyone out there. Just remember that if you are a very good player but want to be a great player, it happens now. To play great you need to be a confident player, to gain confidence you need to work hard and be prepared. Preparation is also a key to success. Lastly, this is a big one, allow yourself to succeed and to be great! A lot of players are afraid to succeed. They usually prepare not to fail which in my opinion is a wrong way to prepare and is a waste of time. The message here is; work hard, very hard during winter workouts, harder then anyone else out there (if you aren't, rest assured that another girl will be). Prepare for the game through your indoor practices, learn the game (do you know that pro football teams practice about 40 hours a week to play a 1 hour game on Sunday?). Allow yourself to succeed. All of this combined will give you the confidence you need to be a great player which by the way makes a team great and becomes a winner!
Happy New Year! Game on! ~ Coach John
