2008-09 MVAA (Girls and Boys)  Elementary and Middle School Winter Indoor Lacrosse Info Sheet

For interested girls and boys MVAA will be fielding teams in the Winter Indoor Lacrosse League run by the Frederick Sportsplex.    All registrations will be directly through the Frederick Sportsplex website.

League Location: Frederick Sportsplex

Season Duration:     First weekend in November through the end of February (approximately 16 game schedule), once per week, typically weekend games, but possibly some weeknight games.   Please note only Elementary School Girls will play an abbreviated schedule in January/February.

Age Groups:   We will field Elementary School Boys and Girls (1st thru  5th Grade) and Middle School Boys and Girls (6th thu  8th  Grade) teams.    All age groups and genders will play a 7 v 7 format, with a maximum limit of 15 players on each team.    Last year we fielded 2 Girls Middle School teams, 2 Boys Middle School teams, 2 Boys Elementary School teams, and 1 Girls Elementary School team.   We anticipate roughly a similar turnout this year.    For age groups with more than one team , the coaches will balance experience and skill in order to create 2 teams of as equal strength as possible.

Equipment:  Boys need to provide their own equipment, including helmet, shoulder pads, arm pads, gloves, stick, mouthguard and athletic cup.   Sneakers work best on the indoor carpet/surface.    Coaches will have  reversible practice jerseys to be worn on game days.    Boys should wear black athletic shorts if

they have them as well, if not any dark color will be fine.   Girls need to provide their own eyewear, mouthguard, and stick.  Sneakers again work best on the indoor surface.   Practice jerseys will be available for the girls to wear on game days.   If  new players need equipment,  please contact me at jwgallaway@comcast.net and I will try to assist you as we can order directly from one of our suppliers at a discounted rate, or you can purchase it locally.

Registration:        Registration is now open and you can go directly to the Sportsplex website at:

                                 http://www.sportsplexent.com/lacrosse.html

Please register by October 13th.  After that date,  if teams are full, we will keep a waiting list and look to fill those teams out by the beginning of the season.    Once at the site, scroll

down to the league you want (Elementary or Middle School) and select your choice.   Then select-“I am registering for a team”,  and in the team drop down box select “Middletown”, fill out all the information requested.   Finally, in the Authorized Charge amount box  highlight $195 then  re-type the correct amount- $140 for Elementary School Boys, or $147 for Middle School Boys or Girls (MVAA has  taken the team cost and divided  it by 15 players per team).    Elementary School Girls will play an abbreviated season  beginning in January through February, and the cost will be $70 per player.

Fees:      Middle School Boys and Girls           $147 per player (approx. 16 game schedule)

Elementary School Boys                     $140 per player (approx. 16 game schedule)

Elementary School Girls                      $  70 per player (approx.  8 game schedule)

These fees represent the actual  “team” fees charged by the Sportsplex, divided by 15 players per team.

Please use the Sportsplex website http://www.sportsplexent.com/lacrosse.html for the schedule, directions, and any inclement weather updates on the facility.  The league rules are also posted on the site.   Please also print, complete and return to your coach the Sportsplex Waiver form which is at the bottom of the Sportsplex Lacrosse web page.

Coaches will be in touch with you  no later that October 26th to tell you what team your child will be on.

Questions:  Please call Mike Hallman for Boys teams at 371-       mikehallman@comcast.net or Tom Karcewski for Girls teams at 371-0353 tmk51@comcast.net

Thanks for your patience as we get the season started!
