    Shady Side and UYC Merger
Shady Side and UYC are in the process of merging our organizations to provide more opportunities for the youth of South County.
You may have noticed that we have already combined players to field joint teams for spring soccer and baseball. We have formed
a merger committee to work on this effort and we will be reporting their efforts right here. This merger will apply to all sports. It is anticipated that
all clinic level teams will continue to be based at their local home fields while county sports team locations will be based on team makeup and coaches.

    Merger FAQs

WHO IS MERGING – Shady Side Boys & Girls Club and United Youth Club

WHAT WILL THE NEW CLUB BE CALLED – South County Youth Association, the club nickname will be the STORM. Work on a club logo is in process.

ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS – The AA County Recs & Parks department is an active participant in the meetings of the merger committee and is fully supporting the merger of the two clubs. The combined club will not be treated as a new club, but rather the continuation of the existing organizations, combined, and under a new name.

ARE ALL SPORTS INVOLVED – The sports that have been offered by both clubs will be continued to be offered by the new club. These sports include: Basketball, Baseball, Field Hockey, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, and Wrestling.

HOW WILL CLINIC SPORTS BE HANDLED – Clinic sports will continue to be based at their local home field, Shady Side and Tracy's Landing Park. You will be asked to make a selection on your registration form. Your child will be assigned to a team at the location that you select.

HOW WILL COUNTY SPORTS BE HANDLED – The merger will provide more opportunities for the youth of South County. The club's goal is to provide the best competitive situation for all our youth. To do this, we try to assemble teams that match skill levels (when possible), especially for Division 1 (or highest) level teams. One of the goals of the new club is to develop athletes for Southern High School.

WILL I STILL BE ABLE TO PLAY WITH A COACH OR MY FRIENDS – YES, it is our goal to provide teams for players of all abilities and a place to play with their friends. We have also had requests to provide teams for more competitive players who want to play at the higher level. We will do our best to accommodate all requests for teams and levels. We feel that by becoming a larger organization we will be better able to meet the needs of all participants.

WILL WE STILL HAVE HOME GAMES – YES, games will be scheduled as in the past. We will have the use of the same fields that we have had in the past.

HOW WILL COACHES, COMMISSIONERS, ETC. BE SELECTED – We will continue to recruit coaches and commissioners and organization officials from the membership as in the past. Coaches will be recruited from the ranks of the parents of players on each team. SS and UYC are volunteer organizations made up of the parents of youths who participate in our activities. The combined organization, South County, will continue to function in the same way. Please help us become better by participating in some way, be it small or large.

THIS FAQ WILL BE UPDATED AS THE MERGER EVOLVES.
