All 5th+6th grade games today (5/23) have been postponed because of rain and poor field conditions at both Netherwood fields.

Games have been postponed because of poor field conditions and have been rescheduled as follows:

Brewers at Phillies will be Wednesday June 5, 6 p.m. at Old Netherwood.

Rockies at A's will be Friday June 7, 6 p.m. at Old Netherwood.

SAA Majors baseball will hold evaluations on Saturday April 6 at New Netherwood.

6th graders will be from 10:30 a.m. to Noon.
5th graders will be from Noon-2 p.m.

Teams will be formed Wed. April 10.

Practices begin Sat. April 13

Opening Day Sat. Apr 27.

Each team plays 12 games.

Playoffs begin June 7

Last day for a championship game is June 19

For those unfamiliar with the terminology, 50/70 refers to the pitching distance / base distance.  For 8-12 yr olds (3^rd to 6^th grade), SAA has been 46/60, meaning the distance from the pitching rubber to home plate is 46 ft and the distance between any 2 bases is 60 ft.  In 46/60, there are no leads – runners cannot leave the base until the ball crosses the plate.  Therefore, there are no pitcher pickoffs or balks.  In 50/70, the mound is 4ft further back and the bases are 10ft more apart.  Leads are permitted.  Pitchers will need to hold the runners on base and maybe even pick them off with a nice, legal move.  Pitchers need to understand what constitutes a legal move and what constitutes a balk.  Runners will need to know how to read a pitcher’s motion to determine if they can go or need to dive back.  It’s real baseball.   SAA will have a mix of 46/60 and 50/70 baseball this year in the Majors league.  New Netherwood will be converted to 50/70; Old Netherwood will remain 46/60.
