NCAA CLEARINGHOUSE

Note:  Recommended to complete during the end of your Junior Year.  Any Seniors who have not registered yet should do so immediately.

The following message is from Mark Saghy ...
Just a reminder that anyone wishing to play collegiate sports, at any level, must register with the NCAA Clearinghouse.   If you have not already done so, I highly recommend registering now.   You can do so online at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net.   The initial registration gets things rolling for the Clearinghouse to accumulate all of your paperwork to begin the process of confirming your eligibility to compete as a FROSH in college.   The finalization cannot take place until after you graduate and your final transcripts are received, but registering now gives you time to make sure the paperwork is in order and for you to be diligent in ensuring a smooth process.  Let me know if you have any questions

USEFUL COLLEGE INFORMATION (by Mark Saghy)

MARK SAGHY BIO

Mark Saghy served as the baseball coach at Mt. Lebanon High School for 7 years, during which time he helped guide the team to the 1998 State Championship and the 2002 WPIAL Championship, also finishing runner-up in 2001. Although his career winning percentage exceeds .700, his most gratifying achievements resulted from helping his players find the right college program, academically and athletically.

Mark has been helping to assist high school baseball players with the college recruiting process since 1998. He initially started by helping his own players at Mt. Lebanon High School and eventually expanded his program to help as many players as possible in Western PA. He has conducted recruiting seminars for the past 10 years and provided individual consultation to over 150 players. Over that time, he has helped place players at various college programs at all levels.

NOTE:  TITAN BASEBALL IS SCHEDULE TO HAVE MARK SAGHY SPEAK TO OUR GROUP AT THE DECEMBER 10th BOOSTER MEETING.

As the summer season winds down and baseball is still fresh in your minds, you may want to consider talking to your community / township team or your high school program to schedule a College Baseball Recruiting Seminar. I conduct seminars to groups and schools of any size. The typical seminar lasts about 2 hours and is encouraged for players and parents of any player who aspires to play baseball beyond high school. Cost is negotiable based upon the size of the audience, keeping in mind that most seminars are $100 - $150 for a group of 10-15 people or more.

The topics of the seminar are listed below. If interested, please contact me and we can work to find a convenient time and locations

COLLEGE RECRUITING TIPS (by Mark Saghy)
June 30, 2009  --
July 1 is the 1st day college coaches are permitted to call you to discuss potential opportunities.   I just want to make sure you understand what this day truly is….just a formality of a start date.   Phone calls on July 1 are nice and flattering, but are just an initial phone call in which a college shows that they have an interest.  Some schools call hundreds of players on this first day, while other schools wait until the next day or two to call in hopes that their phone call is more memorable by not being part of a day of multiple calls.

If you receive a call or multiple calls on that day, CONGRATULATIONS!!   Just remember, the key is not the 1
st call, but rather the 2nd call.   Call #1 just shows interest – Call #2 shows serious and sincere pursuit of you as a recruit.    I can give you numerous examples of players who received 40-50 calls on July 1 and then only 4-5 followed up with a 2nd call.    Often times, that first call just means you are on their list of potential prospects while the second call means they have decided that you are a legitimate prospect.

If you do not receive a call on July 1st, don’t fret….again, July 1 is more of a formality and nothing of significance.   There is nothing to worry about.   The key is for you to take the initiative and get out there to find the school for you – DON’T WAIT FOR THEM TO COME TO YOU.

As Seniors-to-Be, I want to remind you that colleges are not going to come knocking on your door to present offers and you need to focus in on “marketing” yourself to the schools you have an interest in.   I continue to put your name out there to the schools I talk to, but that is just a small portion of the entire recruiting process.   You need to make sure to contact the coaches at the programs you are interested in and invite them to come to see you play.   Make sure you stay in contact with the coaches who respond positively and keep them updated on where you will be – games, tournaments, showcases, camps.    If  you do not receive a reply from a school/coach, don’t automatically believe it is a negative…be persistent until you hear one way or the other.   If it is a negative response, don’t get caught up in it – just move on as there are thousands of schools out there for you to find the ones that fit what you are looking for.

If you need help in any way, just ask….I am willing to contact any coach at any school on your behalf; but you have to tell me which ones.   You also need to be proactive and reach out to the coaches as well, as they like to hear from the players themselves.   I can also help provide you with email addresses and phone numbers for coaches for you to get in contact with them.

Your college search is a huge part of your life and your future….take it seriously, but enjoy it as it can be a great deal of fun.   I am here to help, so all you have to do is ask.

STRENGTH, FITNESS AND SPEED TRAINING
August 16, 2009  --

Great for baseball agility and plyometric training during the Off Season.  The players who are currently participating in this training have seen excellent results to date.  If any questions about the program, contact the head performance director, Ed Wietholder at 412-653-7970.  Note:  Workouts times choices should NOT interfere with your regular HS baseball workouts!
