MISSION STATEMENT
To promote and develop Girl's Fastpitch Softball at Cayuga Youth Athletic Association, and to elevate the level of play to the highest calibre possible. Thru the beginning fundamentals learned in House League, further refinement is obtained by more competitive play in Travel play. We believe that through personal development both mentally and physically, a safer environment for competitive play is attained.
EXPECTATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Players
Travel Softball is a major commitment, tryouts, practice, and league scheduled games and tournaments. These are all factors that must be considered when accepting a position on a Travel team.
As a player, you are making a commitment to the league, to coaches and the other members of your team. It is your responsibility to give 100% at all times, at practices and games. You may not always agree with the coaching decisions but remember they are making decisions with the teams objectives in mind, which your part contributes to. Travel Softball is a highly competitive sport! Your position is earned during the tryouts and every time you step onto the field. You will be given the opportunity to further develop your skills throughout the season.
Coaches
Coaches, like players are making a commitment too! The coaches are there to teach and refine player skills in order to assist their players in reaching their potential.
A coach has the right to expect respect and commitment from their players, but must also extend similar courtesies to the players. A coach has a responsibility to ensure fair treatment of their players at all times, avoiding both favouritism and criticism. The coach has the right to coach their team without any interference.
Parents
A parent is making a substantial commitment too! Your commitment is your daughter's commitment. Practices, games and travel, all commitments of both your time and your money. Your commitment of support at games & functions are even more crucial. You support the coaching, your daughter and the Team.
Your comments and actions are reflected onto the team and game through your daughter. Please use the utmost discretion in sharing any adverse feelings regarding other players or coaching decisions in front of your daughter.
Problem Resolution
We understand that everyone has differences of opinion! We have tried to make the expectations of our players, coaches and parents more clear. However, we must be able to communicate our differences in a fair and approachable manner.
It will not benefit your daughter, the coach or the league if we find out there is a major problem on a team at the end of the year, if no one has communicated this to someone who may have been able to resolve this at an earlier stage.
We strongly urge you to discuss any concerns with the Team Manager first. This person can act as a good liaison between coaches and parents. If adequate resolution can not be reached via this method we would greatly appreciate you contacting a member of the C.Y.A.A. Executive.
Violence Free Sports Policy
(This is an undertaking by the C.Y.A.A group.)
Over the past number of years, violence in our society has steadily escalated. No aspect of our society is immune to violence, not even the realm of sports where violent acts are perpetuated by its participants.
The recreational facilities of the C.Y.A.A. have been developed to provide spectators and participants with opportunities to participate in sport and other recreational activities in a safe, positive and welcoming environment. The C.Y.A.A will work together to ensure a safe sport environment where youth can enjoy sport and learn about competition, teamwork, sportsmanship and fair play. Deterrents will be established to ensure incidents of violent behaviour do not occur in recreational facilities owned, leased or in partnership agreements with the City of Niagara Falls. Travel teams that rent other facilities should share the responsibility for the behaviour of all participants associated with their activity, including players, officials and parents / spectators.
