Here are some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s):

What is the Danbury PAL Softball Storm Program?

The Danbury PAL Storm Program is the next level of progression beyond recreation (rec) softball. The level of competition is higher than at the rec level, and teams will travel beyond their home fields for many games and tournaments.  They will compete against other local travel teams and potentially year round travel programs.  We plan to operate teams from the 8U level on up to 16U.

How is the Storm Program structured?

Danbury PAL Softball operates both the Rec and Storm programs.  At the 10U level and below, players interested in playing for Storm must also play in the Spring recreational program to be eligible.  For 12U and up, Storm players are not required to participate in the rec season.

Will all interested players make the team?

While we strive to include all interested players, however it is not always possible. Limits on team size, coach availability and player ability among other factors may result in players not making the team.

How do player tryouts work?

Danbury PAL Softball will conduct stand-alone tryouts and use player evaluations prepared by league coaches and/or independent evaluators to determine who will earn a roster spot.  Tryouts are typically held in late July/early August for the upcoming season.  Danbury PAL softball may modify the tryout schedule as needed.

What is the time commitment required to participate in the program?

In order for a team to be successful and make it worthwhile for all team members, coaches and parents, players are expected to actively participate. Players who are not able to consistently make practices and games are highly discouraged from participating in the Storm Program.  The season runs from early Fall until late July.  The teams will generally meet one to two times per week for practice/game during the Fall and Spring rec softball season (typically Sunday), then four or more days per week after the conclusion of the rec season until the end of July.  Teams will play potentially 30+ games during the course of the season..

What about my family vacation?

The team coach will provide a practice/game/tournament schedule ahead of time, so you may schedule vacation time appropriately. As a general rule of thumb, families who plan on making extended vacation plans should avoid making those plans during the season. The season will typically begin in the Fall with a lighter schedule, with most activity taking place in late Spring and Summer.  The season typically ends around the end of July. There will be a limited number of players on the roster so a high level of commitment from the players and coaches is critical for the success of the program.

How much does it cost to register?

The cost is based upon a number of factors including how many tournaments and number of games scheduled in which the team will play as well as umpire fees, uniform costs and equipment needs. The cost varies by age group.

How much "travel" is involved?

Travel is generally kept to within an hour drive with most games located in Fairfield County, Connecticut.  There will be occasional tournaments that may have a drive in excess of an hour, but usually within the tri-state area.

How are coaches selected for this program?

Head coaches for each level will be chosen but the Danbury PAL Softball Program Director and approved by Danbury PAL.  Interested candidates may apply for consideration to the Program Director, Cheryl Woods.
