NRRC Softball

Program Overview

North Roanoke Recreation Club offers softball programs for young ladies in the 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U age groups.  Softball programs are available to girls who are between 6 and 14 years of age as of January 1.  Our 8U program is a coach pitch.  Our 10U, 12U and 14U programs are player pitch programs.  NRRC Softball participates in the Roanoke Area Youth Softball Association or RAYSA.  RAYSA is the governing body of softball in our area and provides our scheduling as well as our local rules adapted from the National Softball Association(NSA) rules for fastpitch softball.  Most teams play approximately 15 games during our season.  Our season runs from approximately April 1 through mid June.  We hold evaluations around mid March where we ask the players to come out to an evaluation which allows us to draft team focusing on equality of skills and ability.

Rules

NRRC softball play is governed by RAYSA rules which are a local interpretation of National Softball Association rules.  Copies of rules for each age group can be found below.

Instruction Guidelines

NRRC promotes consistency of instruction for our softball programs working closely with Northside Middle and High School coaching staffs.  In an effort to foster this consistency and quality of instruction, yearly coaching clinics are conducted and written instruction guidelines are developed and utilized as the basis for instruction.  A copy of these guidelines are provided below.
