ClubSportEdinburgh is a privacy conscious organisation and is strongly committed to your right to privacy.
The Data Protection Act 1998
The Data Protection Act 1998 came into force on 1 March 2000. It set rules for processing personal information and applies to structured paper records as well as data held on computers. When the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 came into force on 1 January 2005, the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998 applies to all records, including those structured other than by reference to the data subject, and completely unstructured files.
How does ClubSportEdinburgh collect data?
There are several means by which ClubSportEdinburgh collects personally identifiable data, for example:
a) Through an affiliation application
b) Through an application for a ClubSportEdinburgh event (eg workshop, seminar etc.)
c) Acceptance for inclusion on a mailing list or database
d) As a result of you interacting with ClubSportEdinburgh (e.g. by undertaking research or entering into email or telephone correspondence with ClubSportEdinburgh)
All personally identifiable information provided to ClubSportEdinburgh is processed in accordance with the principles of the Data Protection Act 1998.
Is information passed to third parties?
- It is ClubSportEdinburgh's policy to only disclose information to third parties if explicitly required to do so by United Kingdom Law.
- ClubSportEdinburgh will obtain your consent before passing on any information to any third parties.
- ClubSportEdinburgh does not collect or compile personally identifying information for dissemination or sale to external parties for marketing purposes or host mailings on behalf of third parties.
Who hosts the ClubSportEdinburgh site?
The company who hosts this site is Leaguelineup.com who are based in the United States of America and are not legally bound by the Data Protection Act but following a request from ClubSportEdinburgh, they have issued the following statement:
"We (Leaguelineup.com) own the database and software (files) that run the site, but you (ClubSportEdinburgh) own the information that you choose to enter on the site. You can delete it at any time you wish. We do retain backup copies for security, but after a short period of time, those too are erased.
We place ads on the standard (free) sites, but they are removed from Pro sites. We screen all the ads to make sure they are age-appropriate. We do not place any advertising in the emails you send from the site. We don't display any political ads.
We don't directly contact your users in any way. We don't place any opinion polls or solicit any information from the users on your site. You can create polls or forms to do this yourself and the results are stored in the database, but we don't do anything with that information.
If you use the "Members Only" option, then your visitors will be prompted to register for a MyLeagueLineup ID. In this case we do collect some information so that we can verify their identity and customize parts of the site for them. If you don't use the "Members Only" option, then they don't need to register for this ID.
As an American based organisation we are not bound by the Data Protection Act, but abide by the spirit of it in that you (ClubSportEdinburgh) have full control of the information you enter, that information is adequately secured, and we do not share it with anyone else."
