Team News:
November 27, 2003 - 05:00 PM --
With the move to Thursday nights the Keg has decided to pick up a few other seasoned players. Kerry Woohley (OF), Chad Lupkes (2b), and Matt Witwicki (Witt,1B) have all come over from Homers (Wed), along with addition of 6'6 shortstop Jeremy Van Roekel from Centerville Steakhouse.

Post Party
January 30, 2004 --
Well the Keg team party went off pretty well..of course we were missing a few guys..namely Ibis who was playing darts (nice excuse), Stoebner (lame), Moser and Neil (we knew they wouldn't be there) and Eben (football) in Okiboji. All things considered we had a pretty good turn out. Pics of the party will be on the site in the coming days, the highlight of the party was clearly when Troy Lage burst through the doors and said the following, "OK, WHERE'S THAT PUSSY EBEN AT..?"

After First Practice
February 26, 2004 --
Well folks....I will say that I thought practice went great last night..we got to see that Marcus has no stick, Kerry can hit pop ups off the roof, stealing won't happen very much, and that Witt and Mork are both still fat. I really like the new sticks, the Freak and the Synergy II....very impressed with their launch off the bat especially since they are right outta the wrapper. Hopefully in the next few weeks we can wrap up any personnel changes before the start of the season.

Dick Hacking Classic (Round Robin)
May 2, 2004 --
The team had it's first chance to come together and see what we had. While we were missing two starting outfielders (Neil Matthieson and Chris Stoebner) we had an ok tournament, going 4-0 over the weekend in the Dick Hacking Classic. The group that we got put into (Round Robin format) had Little Coalinga, Roadsters, Alternate Resources, and Kreisers. Highlights included great play on both sides of the ball from Chad Lupkes, the Penguin, and Todd Ibis.

Spring Classic
May 18, 2004 --
Well the team got a chance to test the waters with teams from MN, ND, NE, IA, and the rest of SD. The Keggers beat Dreams Fulfilled out of Omaha 19-13 to start the tourney, but later fell to Junkers outta Mankato 26-19 in a great game that was very back-and-forth. Junkers are one of the best C teams in Mn, so this is a quality loss if there is such a thing. The Keg ended the day beating Outlaws outta SF 12-7 in a very lax game by both teams. Sunday morning we got up early and finished early as well. Gateway/Movin On outta SF beat us 14-13 in the 8am game. Considering how deep the C division was at the Spring Classic, the team wasn't too down about the 2-2 finish.

Watertown
June 7, 2004 --
The Keggers traveled to Watertown to compete in the H2O Tournament. In a field of 26 The Keg finished 2nd, going 6-2 over the weekend. The boys had to get through the likes of Docs (Watertown), Gateway, and the HoneyBears. The Keggers beat WhiteLine out of Brookings in the Championship 11-1, but then lost the "if" game 23-10.

Keg Roster Changes
June 9, 2004 --
Over the last few weeks Keg Softball has gone through some big changes. After practicing all preseason, we have yet to see outfielder Neil Mattieson at any Keg games. With that said, we aren't expecting Neil in a Keg uniform anytime this season.
Marcus LeLoux has moved suddenly to Iowa City for a job opportunity, which leaves The Keg void of another outfielder. This is a big blow to the team since Marcus was such a great young talent and our leadoff hitter as well.
Outfielder Kerry Woolley broke his foot in Watertown. He may be out for the remainder of the season, but we still have our fingers crossed that he will return for the State Trny in Pierre. His bat and leadership will be sorely missed in our lineup.
On a positive note, Greg Brink has returned from overseas to give The Keg a needed lift in a very depleted outfield.

Sports Connection - Brookings
June 21, 2004 --
Despite not having the services of our 2 young lions (Jeremy Van Roekel and Chris Stoebner), the Keggers were able to persevere and win the tourney. The upper division of the Sports Connection tourney had a smaller field than normal (7 teams), but The Keg was able to go 4-0 through a mostly Sioux Falls field of teams. The Keggers met up with DMX out of Worthington, Mn in the championship, a game that The Keg took 16-4.
Once again, The Keg got solid play from tournament specialist Ryan Johnson, who continues to come through consistantly. Others who shined were Greg Brink and Matt Witwicki (Witt). Thanks again to all those that helped put their thumb in the dike in times when we are trouble getting a full 11 out there.

Aberdeen - The Zoo Trny
July 13, 2004 --
The Keggers traveled to Aberdeen to compete in the Zoo Tournament. The boys went through Saturday 15 running both competitors (and having a forfeit), but then came up short against Harr Motors/Zoo out of Aberdeen. After beating out Double Play/Bud, the Keggers had another shot in the championship against Harr, but came up short again 9-7. Overall the team went 3-2 for the weekend.
Standout performers were Freddy (Jared Fredenburg), Greg Brink, Troy Lage, and Jason Mork. With Freddy's sharp hitting he took over the team lead in batting average.

Dollar Loan Center Trny - Sioux Falls
August 3, 2004 --
Due to a snafu in classification, the Keggers got pushed up to the "B" division of the inaugural DLC tournament. In a field of 7 teams, the Keg beat Galland (A1) 12-9 in their first game. In the 2nd game the Keggers faced State "A" Champion Chuk N Duk, which was an education for the squad, losing 19-9. In a tourney without cross-bracketing we then got Galland again in the morning, losing 14-13. All-in-all is wasn't a bad weekend for the Keggers since we got a sniff of the best softball in the state, better preparing us for similar challenges next season.

SF League Tournament
August 15, 2004 --
After a slumping end to the regular season the Keggers moved into the post season tied for 6th place in league. With the top 12 teams (out of 20) making the playoffs, the Keggers had to face another team tied for 6th place in Crown Casino. The Keg was victorious in their first round game with Crown by a 12-4 measure. The victory gave the Keg another chance to see 2-year defending State Champion Chuk N Duk in the 2nd round. CND won the game 15-5, on their way to ten-running every team in their path to the league tournament championship. After starting off the first half of the season with such hope and promise, injuries and personnel issues hampered the Keggers and left them in a tie for 6th in league. As the Cubs always say, wait til next year..
