Club Program FAQ's
Here you will find answers to the most commonly asked questions about our Club Volleyball Program. Please do not hesitate to contact us by phone or email if you have other questions or need further information.
*WHY SHOULD WE CHOOSE MAGNUM FORCE VBC OVER OTHER CLUBS? You should choose your volleyball club provider based on YOUR experience with them...Are you comfortable with the coaches? Is the club open about their fees & expectations? Is the program realistic for your age group?
Magnum Force VBC is quickly becoming a premier provider of volleyball training in Central Indiana. We have done this by staying true to our business model, and true to our families. Our families pay us to provide a service to their children...and we accomplish our task VERY well! All expectations of Coaches, Players, Parents, and Administrators are spelled out with no surprises! We believe that all players have the ability to be "their best"...not just "the best". We will not make promises we can't keep. You will receive honest feedback and strong support from your coaching staff and director. Honesty, Respect, Dignity, Knowledge and Trust...this is what you can expect from Magnum Force VBC.
*DO YOU OFFER AN "ELITE" TEAM? The definition of "elite" is to be the best on a personal level. If you are already the "best", why do you need a club program? The term "elite" has been thrown around too much in the volleyball community. Truly "elite" players are already playing on the USA Volleyball Junior National Team. Our program is designed to see improvement in all of our players from the beginning of the season to the end. What makes a team "elite"? If it means that you win a lot, then yes, we have an elite program; if it means that you participate in National tournaments, then yes, we have an elite program. We believe all of our teams have the potential to be the best...their best!
*OUR HIGH SCHOOL OFFERS A CLUB PROGRAM...SHOULDN'T WE PLAY FOR THEM? Many of the area high schools offer an affordable program that competes for one to three months. IHSAA (Indiana High School Athletic Association) prohibits high school coaches from coaching anyone from their school team in the off season. IHSAA also has very strict rules about requiring that potential players play for any specific club program in the off season. These "Feeder programs" are designed to get girls interested in volleyball, and they do NOT increase your chances of playing on your high school team. Playing for an unbiased club provides you with a much longer & more in depth training season; opportunities for higher levels of competition and training; opportunities to play & develop friendships with players from all over the region; and so much more! Choose your club based on YOUR needs.
HOW MANY PLAYERS WILL BE ON MY TEAM AT MAGNUM FORCE? We believe that part of your training comes from tournament play, therefore we have a strict limit of 10 players per team to ensure adequate playing time for everyone. Each team will have a Head Coach AND an Assistant Coach - making the player to coach ratio 5:1!!!
DOES EVERYONE WHO TRIES OUT MAKE A TEAM? Not everyone is ready for the competition that club volleyball provides. These individuals may not be placed on a club team, however, we will place them in our Training Program, with the intention of training them for the next club season.
AM I ALLOWED TO "PLAY UP" TO THE NEXT LEVEL? Everyone is evaluated at their age level during tryouts. There are rare cases in which we believe that placing a playing in the next age group would be beneficial to their development...this decision is solely at the discretion of Magnum Force staff. We would like to have all players play at their age level if possible.
CAN I REQUEST TO BE PLACED ON A TEAM WITH MY FRIEND? While everyone likes to play only with their friends, the reality is that once you get to the 15's age group, teams may only have 3 players from the same school team (per IHSAA). We'd like for most of our teams to stay together for several years, therefore, your request may not be honored.
WHAT OTHER EXPENSES ARE INVOLVED? Magnum Force VBC makes every attempt to be an "All Inclusive Program", however, there are some items that cannot be placed in our package price. These include: knee pads, shoes, travel expenses, & cost of the National Tournament your team will attend. Your out of pocket expenses should be approximately $100-$800 for the season, depending upon the length of our National Tournament and the type of accomodation you desire.
I WOULD LIKE TO PLAY VOLLEYBALL IN COLLEGE. WILL YOU GET ME RECRUITED? USA Volleyball reports that only 1% of the Nation's volleyball players receive a full ride scholarship to Division I Universities each year. No one can guarantee recruitment into the college of your choice. However, Magnum Force will work with you to develop your recruitment materials and will provide exposure to college coaches. Recruiting is a process that usually begins during your freshman year of high school - we will help you set up a plan and work with you to achieve your dream!

Other Questions You May Have
• Who are the Club Coaches at Magnum Force?
Magnum Force Kaepa offers an excellent staff of coaches. We recruit, hire, train and retain the most dedicated coaches available. We offer training to all of our coaches year-round. The most important aspect of our staff is that all of our Magnum Force Kaepa coaches make a commitment to our mission. Our 2010 Coaching lineup will include returning coaches:
• Diane White, Club Director & U14 Head Coach
• Charles “Chuck” Deardorff, U12 Head Coach
• Ryan Kitto, U16 Head Coach
• Rick White, U13 Head Coach
• Melanie Bales, U15 Head Coach
• Penny Fisher, Team Parent Coordinator
New Coaches include:
• Dennis Scott
• Lisa Keith
• Becky Cola
• Carmen Newcomb, Marketing
Our final 2010 Coaching Lineup will be determined by the number of teams that we decide to roster.
• What are tryouts like?
We try to create an environment where participants are not “stressed” during tryouts. We want to see their best possible play, and best possible attitude. Tryouts will consist of skill testing and game situations. Coaches will evaluate each athlete on their ability to complete individual and team skills, acceptance of instruction, and attitude. Each age division tryout will be different based on needs and number of athletes trying out.
• Are parents allowed to watch the tryout process?
Absolutely! Parents are welcome to attend any and all tryout sessions. We do ask that you make every effort to not distract the participants or our coaching staff. Please note that at all times only tryout participants and our coaching staff are allowed on the courts.
• Can a player who did not play at Magnum Force Kaepa in the 2009 club season have a fair chance at making a team?
Definitely!! Each girl has an equal opportunity to make all teams. Each season is another opportunity to add to our talent base of athletes. Our athletes are our finest commodities at Magnum Force. We believe that each individual should be challenged to reach the best of their potential.
• What is the age break down for the 2010 club season?
12 and under – 9.1.97 and later
13 and under – 9.1.96 – 8.31.97
14 and under – 9.1.95 – 8.31.96
15 and under – 9.1.94 – 8.31.95
16 and under – 9.1.93 – 8.31.94
17 and under – 9.1.92 – 8.31.93
18 and under – 9.1.91 – 8.31.92
• How many teams will Magnum Force Kaepa have per age division?
The number of teams per age division will be determined by the number of those trying out.
• What if my daughter is chosen for a team, but we choose not to play for Magnum Force Kaepa?
The $180 tryout fee will cover the costs associated with the tryout process. Since all athletes will be placed in a Magnum Force Kaepa program, the tryout dues is not refundable, even if you choose not to accept your program placement. If you withdraw after January 1, 2010, you will be responsible for all club dues and team costs for the 2010 club season.
• How much travel is involved with Magnum Force Kaepa Volleyball Club?
Most teams will travel to tournaments within 2 hours driving time of Noblesville. Most teams may travel to one overnight tournament that may or may not be out of state (Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky and Michigan). Some teams may also choose to travel to a National level tournament that may require farther travel – this will be decided by the team, coach and Club Director. Team schedules will be available at tryouts, so you will be aware of the travel before being placed on a team – team schedules are tentative and may be changed on short notice!
How many players will be on each team?
We aim to keep 10 players or less on each team. Magnum Force Kaepa believes that players learn more by playing, and the tournaments we choose are designed to allow for all members of each team to obtain good playing time. Playing time, however, is never guaranteed! If you miss practice, or are not giving your all, your playing time will be negatively affected.
How often are practices?
All teams will practice two times per week for 2 hours at each practice. We will also hold skill clinics and/or scrimmage time on an additional day (especially for our 14 & up teams). In general, practices will usually not begin earlier than 4:30 p.m. and will not run later than 10:00 p.m. Every effort will be made to schedule practices for our younger age groups early in the evening. Weekend practices may be on Saturdays or Sundays. However, Sunday practices will not begin before 2:00 pm to accommodate family and/or church commitments.
• How often do teams play in tournaments?
It is our belief that there are positive benefits to our athletes’ participation in tournaments. Depending upon the age and competitive level of each team, the number of tournaments in which we participate will vary from team to team. On average our teams will play 6-9 tournaments in a club season. Teams will average about one to two tournaments per month.
• When do we get tournament information (when and where they play)?
Most tournament schedules are not posted until two or three days prior to the event. We will have links on our website so that you can check to see when schedules are posted. Magnum Force Kaepa has no control on the time frame in which tournaments are posted.
• How long is the club season?
Tryouts are held in November, and we begin an internal Power League in December. Team practices will begin on Sunday, January 3rd. Our season will end in mid-May or June.
• Can the multi-sport athlete play for Magnum Force Kaepa?
Yes, many of our student-athletes participate in more than one sport, especially in our younger age groups. Naturally, as the teams advance to a higher level of competition, we see less of the multi-sport athlete. There is a section on the tryout registration where we ask our athletes if they intend to participate in additional sports or activities that may conflict with Magnum Force Kaepa. The most important thing that a multi-sport athlete has to do is communicate with her coach regarding her other sport. Most coaches are willing to work around the athletes schedule if they are up front about conflicts.
• Can I work off or fundraise for my fees?
We will also be producing our 1st Annual Showcase Book, highlighting the accomplishments of our 2010 athletes and teams. This book will be something you can hold on to for years to come to remember your teammates, coaches, and accomplishments from the 2010 season at Magnum Force Kaepa. You can sell ad space in our Showcase Book ($100 per business card advertisement), and apply 90% of the ad fee to your club dues for the 2010 season.
• Are there any IHSAA rules that will affect us for Magnum Force Kaepa?
1. No staff members from a particular high school may coach players from that high school while school is in session. High school staff may coach players from other schools at any time, and their own players after the school year has ended.
2. No more than three players from one high school may play for a single team.
3. The above rule (number 2) does not apply to seniors, elementary or middle school students or to students who are not on the school’s team.
4. Athletes may play an outside sport at the same time as they play another sport for their high school. (You may play Magnum Force Kaepa Volleyball and school basketball at the same time.)
5. You may not play Magnum Force Kaepa Volleyball and high school volleyball in the same season.
