9 Man Metro Modified Memorial Day Tournament
    Linden , NJ

The 2007 version of the most successful tournament in modified softball will be undergoing major changes. In keeping with the times and hoping to appeal to teams of all levels, the tournament committee has decided to go with an exciting new format that will crown 2 champions while still allowing all the teams to sample every level of modified softball.

For the 2007 tournament there will be a Major Champion and a Class A Champion. All teams will continue to be guaranteed 6 games & all teams will advance to the elimination round. The top 2 teams in the Major division and top 2 in the Class A will receive cash prizes. The Cash prize pool will be split with 60% going to the Class A division and 40% to the Major division.

We will be accepting only 12 teams for the tournament this year. The teams will be divided into a North and South bracket with 6 teams in each. Every team will play 5 round robin games against the teams in their bracket. The top 3 teams from each bracket (for a total of 6 teams) will advance to the Major Division. The 4th through 6th place teams in each bracket (for a total of 6 teams) will advance to the Class A Division. The winners of each bracket will get a 1st round bye in the elimination round in the Major division as will the 4th place teams in the Class A division.

Due to the limited number of spots we expect this tournament to fill up fast so please contact the tournament directors with your intent to enter ASAP.

    2005 Tournament Wrap Up
Congratulations to Sean Ryan and his DSC team from Deerfield Beach, Florida for winning the Memorial Day tournament in exciting fashion. DSC defeated the NY Gremlins 8-6 in the final game barely having time to celebrate before having to rush to Newark to catch their flight home.

Trailing 6-4 in the top of the 7th DSC rallied for 4 runs highlighted by Dewey Dyck's triple that drove in the tying and go ahead runs. Dyck also went the distance as the winning pitcher and continued his 7th inning heroics by getting out of a bases loaded, nobody out jam in the bottom of the 7th to preserve the win for DSC.

The following teams qualified for play on Monday and this is the official order they finished:
    1. DSC
    2. NY Gremlins
    3. All American
    3. Patsy's
    5. Adco
    5. Clipper's
    7. Globe
    7. Rebels

The tournament committee would like to thank all the teams that attended. We appreciate the positive feedback we received regarding the tournament and facilities. With the exception of a few minor glitches which can be expected at a tournament this large everything ran pretty smooth. Thankfully for the first time I can remember we had no significant injuries reported.

We will be sending out to all managers a full expense report of all the tournament costs and the prize pool which will broken down 1st place - 50% , 2nd place 30%, 3rd Place (2 team tie) 10% each.

I'd like to thank all the other members of the tournament committe, Pete Quaranta, Bill Oplinger, Newton Bruckner -UIC, for their hard work and dedication to making this tournament a success. I'd also like to thank the Linden Parks Department grounds crew who did an outstanding job keeping up the fields while having to work around our schedule that allowed for no breaks.

    Gregg
