A. TEAM FORMATION REQUIREMENTS
1. Players must live within the corporate limits of the city, or
2. Live within 25 miles of the city, or
3. Graduated from city/area high school, or
4. Played American Legion baseball at one time for city/area team.
5. Each team is allowed to have up to four (4) players, including players from Class A cities and former professional players, that do not meet Team Formation Requirements #1-#4. If a team exceeds 4 players that do not meet these requirements at any point during regular season play, the team will become a Class A team for the duration of the year. Players that do not meet requirements #1-#4, are from a Class A city, or are former professional players are called Release Players. Teams may have up to two former professional players.
6. If two or more cities share part of a 25-mile radius, affected players may exercise their rights in rule #3-#4 in this section. Otherwise, players will play for the team that is closest in distance from their residence.
7. Release Player: Someone who does not meet criteria #1-#4, lives in a Class A city, or is a former professional player. Class B teams may have up to four (4) Release Players. A professional player is defined as anyone who has, at any time, played in the major or minor leagues.
8. American Legion players, and players drafted for the State Tournament are not considered Release Players.
9. Any player from a Class A city is considered a Release Player unless he meets criteria #3-#4.
10. Teams in Class B cities that have a college will consider the reasons players live in the radius on an individual basis. If the player’s hometown is outside of the 25 mile radius of college, he will be considered a Release Player because he is living in the city for the purpose of going to college, not establishing a permanent residence.
11. Should a new team form and players that are eligible to play are currently with another team, those players are grandfathered with their current team. Those players may play for the new team the following season. If the players decide to play for the new team they are eligible for the following season, the grandfather clause with their previous team will terminate.
12. Breaking-the-Chain: The only time someone can change teams and not have it affect their status is if: 1) They moved to a different town and the other team is closer, 2) The team they previously played for folded, or 3) the town they currently live in starts a team. If a player changes teams and they do not meet any of these criteria, they will be considered a release player.
13. Players may play on more than one team. They have the ability to play on only one Class A and one Class B team in the NBA. Players should be made aware that there is the potential that scheduling conflicts may arise in the course of league, district and state tournament play. Under no circumstances will a player be allowed to play on more than one Class A or Class B team.
