Putnam Athletic League is a Division II league in the Southeast Region. The Southeast Region consists of teams throughout the State of Florida. Associations may form teams in the divisions of play outlined in the table. All Pop Warner rules and regulations must be upheld in each division. Team availability is based on each Association's ability to form a team. Tryouts of any kind within Pop Warner are prohibited. The participant’s age on July 31st of the current year shall be the participant’s age for the coming season. All participants must pass a physical that is dated after January 1 of the year participating, have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher or complete a scholastic eligibility form to monitor their school progress and have written parental permission.
The first official day of practice is August 1 of each year. Football programs play a 7 - 9 game schedule during the regular season of August though October. Playoffs for conference titles begin the last week of October in the Jr. Pee Wee through Midget levels. Once a league champion has been declared at each level, the team has earned the right to participate in regional playoffs. Those teams that win at the regional championships are invited to represent the Southeast Region at Disney's Wide World of Sports™ to compete for a National Championship known at the “Pop Warner Super Bowl” in their respective level.
The National Football Championships consist of 64 teams from 8 Pop Warner Regions playing in 4 age/weight classifications (Jr. Peewee, Peewee, Jr. Midget and Midget). There are two divisions, Division I and Division II, each fielding 32 teams. Sixty-eight games take place throughout the 6-day event in December, including the Division I Midget National Championship game, which is featured on ESPN and ESPN2 throughout the NFL Super Bowl week.
This is the first year that Putnam will participate in the Tiny Mite program. Associations’ rostered adults must complete the TM clinic to become familiar with the Southeast Region rules for the Tiny-Mite pilot program. Tiny Mites are considered an entry level division designed for participants to have the opportunity to learn basic skills without the pressure of competition. These teams are “NOT” permitted to play a postseason game. Tiny Mite games are play under a running clock with “NO” score kept.
