| Sun June 28 12:00pm |
Scripps Ranch American lost a tough game to Rancho Peñasquitos South 7-4, despite solid pitching from Nick Ruiz (2 IP) and Morgan Heck (4 IP).
Highlights:
1st Inning: Nice running catch by C. Smith at the center field wall. Heads up pick-off at 1st by catcher N. Smart, to 1st baseman J. Page.
2nd Inning: Bang-bang play at the plate... S. Connors - cutting a nice throw from E. Anderson - gunned a strike to N. Smart who stuffed RP's runner colliding into him at the dish. This ESPN play-of-the-day kept the game scoreless until the bottom of the 2nd when N. Ruiz (1-3, 1 RBI) crushed a solo shot over the left field wall (stiff wind blowing in) off of RP's ace.
6th Inning: Comeback rally off RP's ace put together by B. Warren (BB, 1R), S. Connors (1-2, 1R), D. Weiner (1-3, 1R), N. Smart (2-3, 1 RBI), J. Page (1-3, 2 RBI), and D. Pacheco-McEvoy (1-3).
|
| Wed July 1 5:30pm |
Scripps Ranch beat Presidio 11-1 behind solid outings from starter D.
Weiner (WP, 2 IP) and relievers D. Pacheco-McEvoy (1 2/3 IP) and S.
Connors (1/3 IP). The bats came alive with two players, J. Page (3-3,
1B, 2B, HR, 3 RBI) and N. Smart (3-3, 1B, 2B, HR, 4 RBI), crushing home
runs into strong winds blowing in. Both were on track for the cycle;
however, the game ended after 4 innings (10-run rule). Several players
turned in a terrific day at the plate: N. Ruiz (2-3, 2-2B, 1 RBI), D.
Weiner (2 BB, 3R), D. Pacheco-McEvoy (3-3, 1 RBI), B. Warren (BB, 1R),
Z. Smith (1-1), C. Bozykowski (HBP, 1 RBI), and S. Connors (1-3, BB, 1
RBI) with the walk-off double and RBI. The defense was error-free. C.
Bozykowski made another one of his trademark diving attempts in left.
He almost came up with the ESPN highlight and managed to get enough
glove on the ball to prevent extra bases. C. Smith tracked down a
well-hit fly ball at the center field wall to end a strong Presidio rally
in the top of the 4th.

Tues July 7 5:30pm
|
Coming from behind, Scripps Ranch rallied to beat a tough Peninsula team behind a stellar pitching performance by M. Heck (6 IP, 2 K, 1.0 ERA), who pitched a complete game giving up only one run. Heck pitched his way out of a bases loaded jam in the 1st, then settled in allowing only 4 more hits and 1 walk. The defense was errorless again, with an amazing 6-4-3 double play by D. Pacheco-McEvoy (far in the hole) to S. Connors (difficult turn with a runner ramming into his grill) to J. Page (stretching for the 2nd out by an inch).
The offense, facing very tough pitching throughout the game, began to rally in the 3rd. D. Pacheco-McEvoy (1-1, 1 BB, 1 R) scored the first run with instinctive, heads-up base running, capped off with a textbook backdoor slide at the plate after a nice S. Connors sacrifice. C. Smith (BB, 1 R) drew a crucial two-out walk battling tough with two strikes on, fouling off four would-be strike three pitches. N. Smart (1-3, 2B, 1 RBI) hit a 2-out, 2-strike double to drive in C. Smith for the go-ahead run. In the 5th inning, J. Page (1-2, 1 BB, 3B, 1 R, 1 RBI) drove in D. Weiner (BB, 1 R) with a triple, and N. Ruiz (1-2, BB, 2B, 1 RBI) drove in J. Page for the final run of the game.

in there and battled the whole way through including H. Rodgers, M.
Rudick, P. McLoughlin, and M. Remish. |
