2009 marked the 1st season that OVYBL All-Star teams, comprised of talent from all over the Ohio Valley will embark on the Pony Sanctioned tournaments with 1 goal in mind...World Series! Now 3 years later in 2012, we will take another shot.
The competition will be tough, but this group of (12) thirteen-year olds will have an opportunity of a life-time. To say you've been there is great; to say you won it would be amazing! This group of young men who have competed against each other for years will come together and build fantastic memories through baseball.

OVYBL Pony 13s Ready for Action
According to Manager Bill Waugh, the team is really coming together. After a few practices, held on the Wintersville Pony Field, the team is showing great promise, as they prepare for thier journey through the Pony13 Sanctioned Tournament.
The OV 13s defeated the Wintersville All-Stars 7-1 in a scrimmage on Sunday 7/1 to gain some game speed practice prior to the Sectionals, which will be held in Monessen, PA. Winner to advance to Boardman the following weekend.

Venom Stikes Defeating Moon

Call it jitters, call it nerves; I call it baseball! Whaterver you call it, the OV 13's started slow, however after going down 4-0 after 2 they settled in and finished strong defeating Moon by a score of 8-4. Total team effort with Chris Mazar pitching 5 shutout innings allowing just 3 hits down the stretch. The 13s return to Monessen, PA on Friday July 6th for a 7:00p match up with Ingomar. OV falls to Ingomar in close game

Pitching struggled early, and OV found themselves down 4-0 after top of 1st. They responded with 5 runs in the bottom of the 1st to lead 5-4. It was a back and forth battle the rest of the way until Ingomar pulled away to a 12-6 lead after 4. The bats came alive again putting up 4 in the bottom of the 5th to bring us to the eventual final score of 12-10. OV Venom braves the heat...wins doubleheader

Game 1, same as others, pitching sputtered for a slow start and we went down 9-3 after 1 inning vs. Peters Twp. Pitching struggled early, and OV found themselves down 4-0 after top of 1st. The Venom responded chipping away inning by inning. We broke it open with 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th to a 17-13 win. Never give up!
Game 2, after 1/2 hour break, the OV Venom were back at it. Bryce Piatt threw 5 1/3 innings allowing only 1 run. Defensively we were on top of our game. It was a 1 run game for much of the game, clean on both sides, until again in the bottom of the 6th the boys opened it up scoring 5 runs to go on to a 10-5 victory.
Fantastic double header to advance to final 3 in the tournament. The 13s return to Monessen, PA on Sunday July 8th for a 11:00 elimination game vs. loser of Mon Yough/ Ingomar game. Check out the complete bracket on the "09 Pony13 All-Star" page. Good Luck 13s...one more win to advance to Boardman!
OV 13s fall to Ingomar today 11-10

Tough loss today for the OV 13s, dropping a close one to Ingomar to be eliminated from Pony Sanction Tourney. Lost 11-10 and came up just 2 runs short of advancing to Boardman for Pony Regionals. Overall, we had a great tourney outscoring our competition 57-43 and winning 3 of 5 games. Only Ingomar beat us, and they did it twice. Nice tourney boys! Represented the OVYBL well. Thank you!
Now that we have been eliminated from the Sectionals, we will be looking into other tournaments in Robinson and Moon for the coming weekends of July.
