2013 Ed "Faa" Ford Tournament Champions
Congratulations to the Staten Island Orioles Collegiate Team for opening their season by winning the Ed "Faa" Ford Memorial Tournament this past weekend.
The team benefited from strong pitching performances by Ryan Patterson, Fernando Guerrero, James Gurrieri, Anthony VanSise and a complete game effort from TJ Santiago in the championship game.
Tournament MVP Chris Folinusz led the team along with major contributions from Ray Smith, Andrew Boenzi, Alex Plick, Sean Feeney, George Georgeadis, Patrick Marchione, John Codelia, Kevin Kane, Andrew DiFrancesco and Doug Johansen.
Diamond Nation Wood Bat Runner-Up for Showcase Team
The Staten Island Orioles Showcase team recently completed the week long, Diamond Nation Wood Bat World Series with a 5-1 record, which was good for second place in the 80 team tournament.
The team won their first 5 games before losing in the championship game, 2-1 in the bottom of the 7th inning. It was an outstanding week of baseball against some of the top teams in the Northeast. During the tournament the Showcase team more than held their own, scoring the most runs in the tournament while giving up the least.
Special mention should be given to pitchers Tom Cosgrove, Rob Esselborn, Justin Pedone and Pat Ryan who were nothing short of spectactular all week long.
Congratulations go out to the entire team for their dedication, effort and hard work during the tournament. Way to go boys!!
Underclass Team Has Excellent Playoff Run
The Staten Island Orioles Underclass Team recently completed the NJEBL regular season and the week long playoffs. The team went 12-5 overall and finished 2nd after playing a grueling week long playoff schedule which included a thrilling 13 inning 3-2 win in an elimination game along the way. CONGRATULATIONS BOYS!!
Oriole Prep Does Well in Manalapan Labor Day Tournament
The Staten Island Oriole Prep team had a successful tournament run in the Manalapan Labor Day Classic. The team went undefeated in pool play, reaching the semi finals before being eliminated. Nice job boys!!
Staten Island Oriole Prospects Reach Quarter Finals
Congratulations to the Staten Island Orioles Prospect team for reaching the quarter finals in the Diamond Nation 16u Fall Invitational this past weekend. Excellent job boys!!
WWBA Underclass World Championship Wrap Up
The Staten Island Orioles Underclass represented themselves very well this past weekend in Fort Myers, Florida. The team had a solid 2-2 record, beating teams from Illinois and Florida.
The WWBA Underclass World Championship brings together the top 200 teams in the country for what has become a major college recruiting event. It is important to get our players in front of colleges early, making this event an extremely important one, since the recruiting process seems to start earlier and earlier lately.
Our boys did nothing to disappoint and definitely opened some eyes during the weekend. Great job boys, we're definitely excited about next year's Showcase team!!
Staten Island Orioles 10u: Cal Ripken Champs !!!
Congratulations to the Staten Island Orioles 10u team for winning the 2013 Cal Ripken 12u playoffs. The boys did an excellent job and we look forward to watching them compete next year. An outstanding job by all the boys and coaches Tierney, Oliver and Martinson. Way to go guys!!!
