Get your Club involved with Edinburgh's Active School Team
Active Schools is a joint initiative, between the Scottish Government, the NHS and Sportscotland, to get school aged youngsters more active, more often.
The main aim of Edinburgh’s Active Schools initiative is to promote sport, physical activity and health to school aged students in a bid to combat low levels of activity and increasing levels of obesity. Much of this is achieved through extra curricular activities that allow students to try and engage with different sports and physical activities before feeding into the extra curricular programme. This programme comprises of a huge variety of physical activity and sports clubs, from volleyball to basketball, rugby to water polo, tennis to football. These clubs are all delivered by experienced and qualified coaches, ensuring the pupils learn and develop skills in a safe and fun environment, providing them with positive sporting experiences.
Ideally, the Active Schools clubs are delivered in partnership with local community sports clubs, who can provide the city’s future sports stars with a participation pathway, from school into more sustainable participation. This ensures their involvement in sport and physical activity is as easy as possible and that they know how and where they can access a local club, should they wish to take their participation further.
Active Schools strongly welcomes both club coaches and volunteers to support the link between schools and clubs.
Generating school to club links obviously has huge benefits for sports clubs as it helps to increase their profile within the local community to local pupils and potentially can provide them with new junior members.
