COACHING APPLICATION

East Bay Little League (EBLL) always has a need to grow our coaching staff. We encourage all interested adults to participate as a coach or manager. We believe you will find, as many of us have, that it is a very rewarding yet challenging experience.

Coaching Qualification

There are several steps every manager, coach and assistant coach must comply with to be properly registered to coach a team at EBLL. These steps are:

1. Submit an EBLL coaching application for each new season. Click [here] to submit an application online.
2. The coaching application initiates a background check that is required yearly.
3. Have completed a Hillsborough County coaching Certification Course with the past two years.
4. Wear a badge provided by the league. A satisfactory background check and coaching certification are prerequisites to obtain this badge.
5. Have a current CPR card.
6. Attend a coaching interview/orientation conducted by EBLL officials.

Coaches that are not properly registered with the league are not covered by insurance and are not allowed on our fields.

Coaching Certification

Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation presents coaching certification classes that are a prerequisite for being certified to coach. The classes are free and are available several times a month. Click [here] for the class schedule. This class is good for two years. The County requires every coach to be recertified every two years.

There is an alternate coaching class that can be taken online. It is presented by the National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA) for a fee of $25. Click [here] for that course. This course is good for one year. The fee includes liability insurance coverage.

Manager and Coach Selection

All coaches are interviewed and approved by the President and other Board members. Managers are selected from that group. A completed coaching qualification is required for approval.

Selection is not based solely on baseball or softball coaching skills. Managers and coaches are required to handle all facets of operating a team, not just on field activities. They are also expected to assist in the maturation of our young players by emphasizing good sportsmanship and helping them to become good teammates. Coaches are expected to lead by example in treating players, other coaches and umpires with respect. Coaches are required to be knowledgeable in the Little League rules, the local EBLL rules and the Safety plan.

All managers and coaches are expected to take an active interest in the growth of EBLL and improvement of its facilities. Coaches are expected to be members of the league and take an interest in league functions. Coach participation in league activities may involve working on the fields, serving on committees, acquiring sponsors, and promoting fundraising.

Other Volunteers

All team personnel (team moms, dugout parents, field parents) that have repetitive access to the children must also register with the league. This involves:

1. Submitting a volunteer application.
2. The application initiates the yearly background check.
3. Wearing a picture ID badge furnished by the league.
