GUWBC Tournament 2005 - Update
It's all gone for another year and hopefully all injuries have healed, bruises and scars are gone and everyone is looking forward to next year (although a long basketball season to go first!).
Team Photos will slowly appear on the website (too many cameras and photographers to keep track of!) - just click on Photo Albums and follow the link. Apologies if your team didn't get a team photo (few logistical problems) - it will be sorted for next year!
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the tournament, all teams, players, volunteers, sponsors and the ever important officials! Without all of these people events like these wouldn't exist!
All game results are now on the website, click on Game Results and follow the link for the tournament competition to view the tournament standings then you will need to go to the Standings section.
Congratulations to the women's Athletes on Tour team (www.athletesontour.com) who managed to go undefeated in the women's competition and also managed to drink their own body weight each night of the tournament (we won't mention breaking hostel doors!).
A very competitive mixed competition saw a number of teams in contention for the final spots on the Sunday. Director's Cut (Glasgow University A) battled it out in Section 2 with a number of teams coming close (Team Scotball B, Luton Sharks and AOT 2). Team 2 were also undefeated in their section fighting off fierce competition from Team Scotball A and West Herts Warriors).
The final saw Team 2 and Director's Cut battle it out (and what a battle it was!) - technical fouls and elbows flying probably didn't make it the most enjoyable final to watch - someone needed to tell some people that it was a tournament (no winners of the 'Spirit of the Tournament' playing here!). Team 2 came out the eventual winners in this closely fought final!
Athletes on Tour managed to secure the 'Spirit of the Tournament' award for being hugely entertaining on and off the court - who could forget a number of grown men dancing around as fairies! As well as having bottles of wine funnelled down their throats and perhaps there was a sign of things to come when one of their members within 5 minutes of leaving the airport had cracked open a bottle of Passoa and was drinking it with whatever was available! We won't mention anyone getting thrown out of The Sports Cafe!
Final presentations were carried out by subsitute Alyson Hunter (bus driver extraordinaire!) as we were an organiser down due to an unfortunate elbow to nose incident (think team mates were quite glad as it often takes them hours to prize the microphone out my hand!).
Think that's enough rambling from me, if anyone has photos they would like on the website or anyone wants to make suggestions/comments about this year or next then please e-mail Tournament Organiser, sign our guestbook or chat online in our Forum!
Date for next year's tournament Friday 30th June - Sunday 2nd July 2006!
