    2004 / 2005 Fundraiser
October 11, 2004  --   Keg Softball would like to thank all those attended our first ever fundraiser. This post season party went off very smooth and will be an event repeated in the future.

A few days before the event the Keg officially got a commitment from the three players shown above. The Keg is proud to announce the signings of former Service First-Upper Cut standouts Thad Namanny (OF), Scott Namanny(INF), and Ryan Johnson (OF). These three young players (ok, maybe Thad isn't that young anymore) should provide the Keg additional athleticism, defense, and flexability.

    Make room for the Koon!
January 13, 2005  --   The Keggers would like to welcome long-time Bases Loaded pitcher Brad Kuhnert to our squad. Brad brings a wealth of experience from his days with Loaded to our team, along with his leadership, and his big ole stick! With the recent signing of Randy Johnson to the Yankees, one could say that the Keggers have now gotten their "Big Unit"! Most would rather call him "Old Sexy" though. Happy to have ya on the train bud!

A New Addition to the Keg Family
March 18, 2005  --   Keg Softball is pleased to announce that new Keg Softball player Ryan Johnson and his wife Jill have given birth to a healthy son, Evan. Jamie Elrod and his wife Colleen also had a new addition with their son Dylan who was born earlier in 2005.

    Spring Training
March 28, 2005  --   As the Cubs and other Major League squads take their cuts in Arizona and Florida, the Keggers are warming up in the unpredictable weather conditions that are springtime in South Dakota. Official opening day for the squad will be at the Hacking Classic on Saturday April 23rd at Sherman Park in Sioux Falls. The Hacking tournament is a tribute to former Sioux Falls Softball Board Member Dick Hacking who passed away in early 2004. The Keg looks forward to inserting new parts into their 2005 lineup, namely Ryan Johnson, Scot Namanny, Thad Namanny, and Brad Kuhnert.

Taking Care Of Business - Hacking Tournament
April 23, 2005  --   The Keggers opened up 2005 play with a 4-0 start at the Dick Hacking Memorial Tournament. The Keg was placed in the "B" flight and had wins over SF Storm, Wings (formerly Kreisers), Little Coalinga, and DLC. Highlights were clearly the play of Keg newcomers Ryan Johnson and Scot Namanny, who both hit well and played great in the field. Others who put their best foot forward were Kerry Woolley, Todd Ibis, and Eric Mork. The entire team was there with the exception of Big Sexy (JVR) who will not be available until the second week of league due to baseball obligations with USF. More pics of the Hacking under the Photo Album.

    Spring Classic
May 23, 2005  --   Overall the Keggers faired ok in the Spring Classic, but fell short of the goals of playing late into the tournament. The boys started off the tournament by beating Mad Dogs out of Mitchell 18-14, but then didn't hit against a very solid Napolean/Quintet team out of North Dakota, dropping the game 14-4. In the night cap the Keggers found their sticks again 10-running Gaslight from Sioux Falls 19-9 in 5 innings, which earned them an 8am game Sunday morning versus Brookings power Sports Connection/Cubbys. In the eye opener SC got off to a huge start (20-4 after 2 innings) and held on for a 22-12 win in 5 innings. For the second straight year the Keggers have lost in the 8am game, going 2-2 for the event. Standout performances were provided by Brad Kuhnert and Kerry Woolley. The top 3 finishers in the "C" were Sportscasters (NE), Hooters (NE), and PES (IA).

The Keg Stubs it's toe in Watertown
June 6, 2005  --   While the Keggers started out the Watertown Summer Swing 3-0, the poor weather soon came in and the teams chances were washed away with a sub-par effort. The Keggers lost to the Jaxx 7-4, then to the Workers in a back and forth game 13-11. The one bright spot to the washed out weekend was RJ (Ryan Johnson, shown above) winning the homerun contest. Ryan Milsap of the Keg also made the Finals of this event. (more pics under the Watertown pic tab)

    Midseason Checkup
June 20, 2005  --   At the midway point through the season the Keggers are not playing their best ball, but have been playing good enough to keep their heads above water. So far this season the Keggers are 12-3 in League (2nd place), while compiling a 9-4 record in tourney play. The team marches into Bismarck, ND for the biggest tournament in the midwest this weekend a few big guns short, but the squad looks to be competetive as always, along with taking in the whole McQuades softball experience.

    "The McQuade" - Bismarck, ND
June 26, 2005  --   The Keggers went off to Bismarck, ND for the storied McQuades Charity Softball Tournament this weekend. While the team was missing some of its big guns in Ryan Johnson (RJ) and Scott Namanny (Nummy), they made the most of the event. The Keggers started off with Advanced Vision Center out of Dickenson, ND and got off to a fast start that ended up resulting in a 19-4 victory in 5 innings. The next game had the Keg matched up with tournament favorite SportsCasters out of Lincoln, NE. In a low scoring battle the Keggers were holding their own in a 10-6 game in the 5th inning before the big sticks of SC came alive to give them an 18-6 victory in 6 innings. The Keg then moved to the loser’s bracket Saturday night, facing Sportsdiamond out of Fargo. The Keggers got back to business in this one putting up 30 runs in 5 innings and taking the game by a 30-15 score. Immediately following that game that Keggers faced Turtle Mountain Thunder out of ND. The sticks kept going as the Keggers took the nightcap 31-17 in 5 innings. The Keggers wrapped up the day at 3-1, waiting for the loser of the unbeaten game between Ground Round (ND) and Odyssey (ND). Ground Round won in 8 innings, which gave the Keggers a game against Odyssey early Sunday. The Keggers didn’t hit and Odyssey could do no wrong in a 4 inning stinger that ended 24-4. All in all the squad wasn’t thrilled about the rough game Sunday, but the squad was upbeat about holding their own with a 3-2 record and a 5th place finish in this high profile event.

Highlights included stellar play from centerfielder Chris Stoebner, who caught everything hit in his general direction, and Jeremy Van Roekel (Big Sexy) who hit 5 homers and made very few outs. Other tough outs were Matt Witwicki (Witt) who added 3 homers and Brad Kuhnert (Koon) who added 2 more.

    The Regular Season Wraps
July 30, 2005  --   The Keggers wrapped up the season at 23-5 with wins over Gateway and Granite City, which was good for 2nd place in Sioux Falls. The boys are pleasantly suprised with the strong showing this year as the team is only in it's 2nd season in Sioux Falls top league. Shown below are the teams that made the Thursday Night Playoffs.

    1 Team Chuk N Duk/Sioux Valley Power** 26-2
    2 The Keg** 23-5
    3 The Workers** 19-9
    4 Champp's/Coors' Light/Service 1st** 18-10
    5 Buffalo Wild Wings** 18-10
    6 Granite City/Billy Frogg's BOHICA** 18-10
    7 Team Titans** 17-11
    8 Buck's/Culvers Brewzers** 16-12
    9 Gateway Lounge/Coor's Light/AMP** 15-13
    10 Hairforce/Crown Casino/Coor's Light** 14-14
    11 Old Chicago/Coor's Light** 14-14
    12 Schoenemans** 14-14

The Keg Stinks it up at State
August 7, 2005  --   After a successful regular season in Sioux Falls, the Keggers traveled out to Pierre for the State Tournament. In an odd series of events the Keggers were bumped to Division I by the powers that be due to their success in the Sioux Falls Thursday Night League, after not having played in a State Tournament in 6 years (DIII). In any event, the squad didn’t put it’s best foot forward while also being short one of the stars of the team in Jeremy Van Roekel. The group never got the bats going in losses to Medicine Shoppe 12-6 and to Granite City 11-5. Solid play was seen by Chris Stoebner, Kerry Woolley, and Matt Witwicki. Chuk N’Duk from Sioux Falls won the D1, with Sports Connection from Brookings finishing second. (For more pics from state, check the photos section of the site)

The boys will need to get the bad taste out of their mouths in a hurry as the league playoffs get going this coming Thursday night. The Keg gets the winner of Old Chicago and Team Titans. At the end of the night Thursday only 2 teams will be standing, waiting to play on Championship Tuesday....can the Keg be 1 of those teams..wait and see..

    League Playoffs
August 12, 2005  --   The Keggers got off to a good start in the playoffs, capping off a season sweep of Team Titans (3-0) with a 14-12 win. It's never easy to beat a good team three straight times, so the boys were pretty proud of this accomplishment. The game was tight throughout which was to be expected, but in the bottom of the 7th the Keggers go homers from RJ and then a walk-off from JVR to win it.

In the semi-finals the #2 seeded Keg got the #3 seeded Workers. In this one the Workers boys hit the ball a lot and took the game 21-11. While this was amongst the Keg worst defensive efforts of the year, 11 runs won't win you many games. The Workers are a class squad and they ended up putting forth a very game effort versus CND in the final before bowing out 25-12.

Well for the Keggers, all in all a pretty solid season for a team that nobody had picked to finish in the top 5 or 6. The team will be looking continue pressing forward and hopefully good things will come in the future.

(Kerry Woolley watches Casey Sonju hit the first of his two bombs against the Keggers Thursday Night)

    While Fall Ball Wraps Up..
The Keggers are sad to announce that 2-year Keg Veteran Jeremy Van Roekel (Big Sexy) will be heading to Workers along with 4 other guys from the now defunct Gateway Softball Team. JVR will be missed in the lineup, but more so yet off the diamond as he is a great guy to hang with and friend to all the Keggers. The squad wishes him the best, except for the 4 games a year where the teams will be squaring off in '06. Now Witt's gonna have to hit 30 homers next year....ok, time to get on the phone....so as 2006 approaches, The Keggers prepare themselves for offseason moves and preparation for making the team better for next season.

    Witt's Flock Comes Alive
September 22, 2005  --   Shown above is "Witt's Flock", a collection of guys (2 Keggers) who took the 1st annual Red Cross Tournament....a benefit for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The squad went unbeaten, beating the Suds/Amp team in the championship game 19-4. (From top to bottom, left to right..Steve Weebee, Tim Hamer, Koon, Witt, Josh Sandholm, Scotty McVicker, Chad Lupkes, Buddah, Nate, and Jim Daly)

    The Keg 2005 Chicken-Feed
October 3, 2005  --   The 2005 Keg Chicken-Feed was a big success! Thanks again to all the teams in Sioux Falls for once again showing their support for Keg Softball and the SF League as well. We went through the 2 kegs in short order and many a chicken....T-Bone, the kitchen has asked you not to come back next year after you ate half the product! For the 2nd straight year, the Packers have lost on MNF when we were having the chicken feed....no shocker there!

    Keg New Player Additions
October 19, 2005  --   Keg Softball would like to welcome a few new members to the squad, while wishing the best to some of our former teammates who have gone to pursue other opportunities.

First off, Keg Softball would like to thank Kerry Woolley for his time (2 years) spent in a Keg uniform. Kerry (pictured above) brought a great deal of devotion, reliability, and production during his time with the team. Kerry has now moved to another opportunity with Schoenemans (Jaxx) for 2006.

Jeremy Van Roekel decided to head to The Workers earlier this off-season. Since that time JVR was given the opportunity to play with the gold standard of South Dakota Softball, Chuk N Duk. Having said that, our former teammate (of 2 years) will now be swinging a bat for CND. Best of luck and continued success to you as well “Big Sexy”.

And last, but surely not least….Troy Lage. A softball veteran of over 15 years, Troy has decided to hang it up after the Keg’s second place league finish. Troy has worn many hats for the team over the last 10 years, most of which at shortstop and some in the outfield. “Dorn” will be missed.

Now on to our pickups for next year..

Our first pickup of the year was Dana Kokenge, who has been a fast-pitch player most of his softball days, but spent the last season with Chammps. Dana will bring our squad some good pop, athleticism, and an all around great guy.

Our next pickups came in a pair. Nate Fichter and Scotty McVicker have recently signed on with the Keggers and should give the team some additional flexibility and youth. Both players are still in their 20’s, and both are very capable as well. Nate will be looking to help the squad at second base, and he will also bring the squad some needed power as well. Scotty is more in the Lenny Dykstra mold, a player who has a great motor and many skills. Scotty will help the Keg fill out its outfield and also will assist in the infield at times as well.

    Winter Workouts
The Keggers are all preparing for the 2006 season. The fella's are busy lifting, in acceleration programs, playing in hoops leagues, hanging out at the bar, and of course at the buffet. The team is still tweaking the roster a bit, but the boys are looking forward to another fun and successful season in '06.

Shown above is Witt with old Kegger Big Sexy..preparing for the heavy drinking season ahead. Of course this pic was from Halloween, when Jeremy was the Tooth Fairy and Witt was Drew Carey. (other pics to be found in the Halloween section of the photos)
