The sixth annual East-West Bowl will feel like old home week for several former Mississauga Warriors.
More than 90 of the top Canadian Interuniversity Sport football players, including seven former Warriors, will be on hand May 10 at the new Ronald V. Joyce Stadium in Hamilton for the annual all-star game.
The Mississauga players were all members of the 2004 Ontario Varsity Football League championship team.
The list includes Jamie Shaw, Darcy Brown and Kyle Jones, all former students at The Woodlands Secondary School.
Shaw is a defensive back at Guelph University, Brown is a receiver at Saint Mary’s and Jones plays linebacker for Bishops.
They'll be joined by linebacker Greg Maciaszcyk from York (Philip Pocock), defensive lineman Osie Ukwuoma of Queen’s (Mount Carmel), offensive lineman Andrew Crosby from Guelph (Erindale) and defensive back Elliott Richardson from Acadia (Toronto’s Richview Collegiate).
The East-West Bowl is a showcase game for players entering their final year of CIS play before being eligible for the CFL draft.
Organized in partnership with the CFL and NFL, the game brings together the top CIS football players for a week of practices and evaluations, culminating with the all-star game.
A national committee of CIS head coaches selects participants from a pool of players nominated by their respective universities.
Scouts from all CFL teams and some NFL clubs will be in attendance to evaluate players.
