Congratulations to all our teams who played in the Challenge Cup
Congratulations to all the Steveston Tournament teams who competed in the Challenge Cup tournament this past Victoria Day weekend. This is a huge tournament with more than 220 teams participating from all over Canada and the States and some great hockey was played.

All our teams did exceptionally well in their pools and divisions and although we did not bring home any trophies, our players can be very proud of how well they represented the City of Richmond on the weekend.

Well done to the coaches and players and a big thank you to all the parents and family members and friends who supported our teams during their games.
Steveston Hockey Club... Burnaby Summar Challenge Tournament Results
This past sunny weekend, 4 of our Steveston Hockey Club teams participated in the Canlan Burnaby Summer Challenge Tournament.

Our U10 girls team were in tough against girls 2 and 3 years older than them, but they put up a great fight and showed how much they have improved their skills this spring. They finished the tournament in 3rd place and had a great hockey experience.

The 96,98 and 99 Sharks all went undefeated in the tournament up until the AAA Championship games. The day started with a real nail-biter with the 99 Sharks team up against the Cloverdale Young Guns. The team fought back from a 3-1 deficit to take teh lead at 4-3, then the Young Guns scored to tie the game at 4-4 at the end of regulation time. Unfortunately, we hit 2 posts in the 3 on 3 overtime, then lost the Championship 5-4. A great effort by our 99 team to bring home a 2nd place finish.

The 98 team played next against the Pacific Vipers and unfortunately, they were unable to secure the victory and brought home a 2nd place finish in the AAA division.

The final game was the 96 Sharks up against the Cyclone 96's. Our team played a tough game and came away with an exicting 6-2 victory to bring home the AAA 1st place Championship Trophy.

Well done to all our players for the excellent display of sportsmanship and team play this past weekend and for doing so well in the tournament.

Wrap-up BBQ thank you's and PICTURES.....
A huge thank you to Christy Waisman for arranging the wrap-up BBQ this past weekend. We had a great turnout - around 300 people over the morning/afternoon and everyone seemed to have some fun and enjoy the wonderful array of food and drinks.

Thank you also to all the managers and parents arranging and bringing the salads, desserts and drinks, tables, BBQ's, pop-up tents etc. What a great spread there was and I think everyone went home full.

There are always many thank you's as we have so many great volunteers - those who helped setup, cleanup, those who cooked, shopped, and eveyrone who showed up - thank you all so much.

Finally, thank you to all of you - parents, players, coaches, managers, families and last but not least, the players for giving us all a great 2nd year for Steveston Hockey Club. Enjoy the summer...

WELCOME TO THE 2010 STEVESTON SHARKS SEASON
On behalf of the Board of Directors for Steveston Hockey Club, welcome to the 2010 season. This year promises to continue to grow upon the first two successful seasons offering skills development and a positive hockey experience for Richmond based players.

As the Board looked at the upcoming season it has had to address several issues while still offering tremendous value for its participating members. This year we expect increases in ice rental fees, tournament fees that are significantly higher than Minor Association winter tournaments and like so many sports groups throughout BC we are uncertain about receiving Government grants to the same degree as was received in 2009.

The Board is also very excited to be able to announce that it has engaged Selects Hockey, an affiliate of a North American-wide hockey program, driven by the famed Howe hockey family, to provide all of the Skills Development this spring. Not only does this continue to allow our players to have access to the best coaches and development programs available in the Lower Mainland but it also provides a unique opportunity for our members to be able to take full advantage of a wide range of programs that Selects Hockey will be offering for those who wish to further develop their skills and broaden their hockey experiences in addition to the programs offered by Steveston Hockey. You can visit them at Selects Hockey

Based on feedback received we have taken an “all inclusive” approach to registration fees this year. We have included all costs within the fee so that there will be no extras required for activities such as the annual fund raising event. The Board believes that our fee structure still offers the best value for money available in the Lower Mainland for Spring Hockey and below you will see a breakdown of each program, clearly articulating all that is included. You will also find a breakdown of exactly which tournaments each age group had been entered into, all of which, except travel costs, are included in the registration fees.

Finally please note that also based on feedback we have decided not to participate in the Whistler Tournament this year due to concerns that the early July date starts to impede on summer holiday plans and unreasonably elongates the season and have replaced this with Lower Mainland Tournaments for those participating teams.

Please scroll down to find the program overview for 2010 as well as the tryout schedules. Please note, for those players just wanting to play Three on Three - tryouts are not required.

See you at the rink.
