One quarterback led his team to an upset playoff win. The other had his remarkable high school football career end with a postseason defeat. Both had excellent games on Friday night.
Vanden’s junior signal-caller Ben Scott completed 16-of-20 passes for 320 yards, passing for two touchdowns, while rushing for another in helping the No. 16 seeded Vikings upset top-seeded Manteca in the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III playoffs (Source: Fairfield Daily Republic).
Meanwhile, Andrew McNeece passed for 356 yards and a touchdown in Benicia’s loss to Inderkum in the opening-round of the SJS DII playoffs (Source: Vallejo Times-Herald). The defeat ended the senior’s high school career that included a two-year varsity stint during which McNeece passed for over 5,000 yards and 56 touchdowns. McNeece’s success was not limited to individual stats and awards. The Panthers reached the postseason in each of the past two seasons and claimed a piece of the Solano County Athletic Conference championship in 2009.
The two great quarterbacks share the honor this week as the SolanoSportsRadio.com Athlete of the Week.
