 Game Results:

 Canal 16, Brandywine 6
Behind the pitching of Lorenzo Carrier, the 10s defeated Brandywine 16-6 in 5 innings. Carrier, who  led a 12-hit, 16 run effort was 3-3 with a triple and a grand slam for a total of 7 RBIs. Josh Morris closed out the game with 4 K's in an inning and a third of work...Sean Blevins went 2-4 with 2 RBIs along with Austin Luszcz and Logan Moore adding 2 hits for Canal.

 Canal 4, Newark American 1
Canal defeated Newark American to advance to the Winner's Bracket Final on Thursday at Canal. Lorenzo Carrier pitched 4 perfect innings including 11 strike outs. Nick Akers earned the save, giving up 1 run on 1 hit with 3 strike outs in 2 innings.  Eddie Stecher helped the Canal cause with an outstanding catch in right field.  Carrier and Akers both helped themselves with RBI singles and 1 run scored each.  Brayden Earl had a nice RBI single, and other Canal hits were contributed by Daniel Lu, Josh Morris, Josh Silva, and Mike Clarke.

Canal 4, Newark National 1

The Canal 10s advance to the Championship Game with an exciting win over a tough Newark National team.  Nick Akers and Lorenzo Carrier led a solid team effort, including excellent defensive plays by Brayden Earl, Sean Blevins, and Josh Silva.  Carrier again was outstanding on the mound, pitching 5 innings, giving up only 1 run on 2 hits, with 11 K’s.  Nick Akers gets the game MVP with a Grand Slam home run accounting for all of Canal’s runs, as well as pitching a perfect 6th inning earning the save.  Josh Morris was great at the plate, going 2 for 2 with a walk.

Brandywine 14, Canal 13
The 10s suffered a crushing 14-13 defeat at the hands of a hot Brandywine team.  Nick Akers was amazing in the loss with three, count em three, 3-run home runs!  After Canal jumped out to a 6-0 lead, Brandywine's big bats came alive to score 10 unanswered runs.  Canal battled back to take a 12-10 lead in the top of the 5th, but again fell behind 13-12 after 5.  Some gritty hitting tied the game in the top of the 6th at 13, but Brandywine ended it on a walk off based loaded single in the bottom of the 6th.

Canal 24, Brandywine 12
CHAMPS!!  The 10s bounced back to defeat a tenacious Brandywine team 24-12 for the District 2 10 Year Old Championship!  Canal opened the game with an unprecedented 17 run first inning, including 15 runs and 17 batters before getting their first out.  Canal led by as much as 21-0, but Brandywine battled back to bring the score to 21-12 after 3 innings.  Zo Carrier's homer in the 4th put Canal over the 10-run limit, and Austin Luszcz pitched a scoreless bottom of the 4th for the game and tournament win.  Carrier achieved the game and tournament MVP, going 4 for 4 with a grand slam and 3-run homer and 10 RBIs.  Other notable performances included Luszcz (4 for 4, 5 runs, 4 RBIs), Josh Morris (solid pitching, 3 for 3, 3 runs, 2 RBIs), Sean Blevins (3 for 4, 3 runs, 3 RBIs), Jake Greenwood (1 for 2 with a run), Eddie Stecher (2 for 3 with 2 runs), and Daniel Lu (1 for 1 with a run).

 Milton 1, Canal 0
Man, when the 10s lose, do they make it heart wrenching!  Milton opened the State Tournament in a classic pitcher's dual over Canal, 1 to 0.  Lorenzo Carrier pitched 4 and a third outstanding innings, giving up no runs on two hits with 9 Ks.  Nick Akers pitched a scoreless inning followed by solid pitching from Josh Morris.  Akers, Morris, and Logan Moore provided solid defensive plays to keep Canal in the game.  Canal only had three scattered singles on the night (Carrier, Austin Luszcz, and Josh Silva).  Their best chance was in the top of the 6th when Canal started the inning with the bases loaded and no outs, but several nice plays by Milton kept Canal off the scoreboard.  In the bottom of the 6th, a walk, double and then a walk off single won it for Milton.

Milton 12, Canal 3
Canal suffered an anti-climatic 12-3 loss to Milton to end their run at the 10 Year Old State Championship.  Nick Akers (2 2/3 inn.) and Austin Luszcz (3 1/3 inn.) both pitched well but Milton's hits kept dropping in the gaps and all the close plays seemed to go Milton's way.  After falling behind 6-2 after 3 inn., Canal left the bases loaded in the 4th and runners at 2nd and 3rd in the 5th, ending their best chances for a comeback.  Jake Greenwood, Daniel Lu, and Logan Moore had several nice defensive plays, keeping Canal alive, but to no avail.

 Canal   14   Midway  10

Canal 13, Newark American 2

Saturday morning's win by the Canal 8s was highlighted by a brilliant pitching performance by John Klepacki and Aiden Gray who combined for a two hit, four inning 12-2 victory.
A two run inside the park home run by Cameron Coco ignited a 6 run rally in the 3rd inning.  After giving one run back in the top of the fourth, the game closed on a bases loaded single in the bottom of the fourth by Matt Hoffman, scoring Luke Corrozi for the final run.

Canal  18   New Castle  17

Unbelievable.  After losing their first game to New Castle, the 8s have battled through the losers bracket to emerge with a 3-1 record and play Newark National in the District 2 South final on Tuesday night.  The 8s dug a hole early in the game giving up 7 runs in the first inning, and another 6 in the second.  But these kids have grit.  With their backs against the wall, they remembered how to play defense and began hitting and running the bases with precision.  The defense shut down possible big innings late in the game with Alex Machenheimer throwing out a NC player on an attempted steal with a great run down by JT Wingo and Luke Corrozi.  Ryan McBride,  Sameer German and JT Wingo made momentum changing plays, robbing balls out of the air in the final two innings for pitcher Cameron Coco.  Canal's comeback was not to be denied, with the boys scoring 11 runs in the final 3 innings.  Mercifully, after more than 3 1/2 hours, Drew Brady showed discipline at the plate and worked a walk with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 6th, to plate the final run of the 18-17 contest.
