Hunter's Truck Sales 14, Millerstown Inn 4

Hunter's jumped on top early with a 1st inning 3-run homerun by Tyler Callihan and went on to win Game 1 of the Chicora League Championship Series 14-4. Top hitters for Hunter's were Shawn Bellis with a homerun & 3 singles; Josh Behrens with an inside the park homerun, a double, & a single; Andrew Larimore with an inside the park homerun & 2 singles; and Joe Callihan with a triple, double, & single. For Millerstown Cristos Klutinoty homered & singled and Dave Tarr doubled & singled. Chris Bellis was the winning pitcher. Game 2 will be Wednesday, August 12 at St. Patrick's.

Millerstown Inn 10, Hunter's Truck Sales 7

Millerstown Inn evened the series at 1-1 with a 10-7 victory over Hunter's Truck Sales Wednesday. Hunter's broke a 3-3 tie with 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th but MTI responded with a 5-run 6th inning to take the lead for good. The inning was highlighted by a 2-out, 2-RBI double by Eric McCue to take the lead. Millerstown was led at the plate by Sluggo Smith with a homerun & 2 doubles; Justin Alessio with a triple, double, & single; and Zach Moore added 2 singles. For Hunter's Shawn Bellis had a triple, double, & single and Tyler Callihan had 2 doubles & a single. Kenny Bussard was the winning pitcher. Game 3 will be Friday, August 14 at St. Patrick's.

Hunter's Truck Sales 7, Millerstown Inn 2

Hunter's took a 2-1 lead in the series with a 7-2 win over Millerstown Inn Friday. Leading the way for Hunter's offensively was Ian Campbell with 3 singles, Rick Belles with a double & a single, Joe Callihan with 2 singles, and Jordan Johnston with a 2-RBI triple. For Millerstown, Nathan Markle had a double & a single and JR Brewer added 2 singles. Tim Dietrich earned the win on the pitcher's mound, scattering just 6 hits. Game 4 will be Tuesday, August 18 at St. Patrick's.

Millerstown Inn 16, Hunter's Truck Sales 6

Millerstown forced a deciding Game 5, by beating Hunter's 16-6 in Game 4 of the Chicora League Championship Series. Millerstown scored 5 runs on 6 hits in the top of the first inning and never looked back. Leading the offense was Mike Dorondo with a homerun, double, single, and 6 RBI. Dave Tarr had 2 doubles and Eric McCue, Justin Alessio, Cristos Klutinoty, and Nick Morrow each doubled & singled. Tyler Callihan singled twice for Hunter's. Kenny Bussard was the winning pitcher. Game 5 will be Tuesday, August 25 with the rain date set for Thursday August 27.

Hunter's Truck Sales 10, Millerstown Inn 2

In the deciding Game 5 of the CLCS, Hunter's scored 4 runs in the top of the first inning, and it turned out that was all the scoring they would need to clinch the championship as they went on to win 10-2. Shawn Bellis led the offense with 3 doubles and 5 RBI. Travis Bellis added a triple & a single, Chris Dietrich had 3 singles, and Keith Lehman had 3 RBI. For Millerstown, Dave Tarr had 2 solo homeruns and Nathan Markle doubled. Chris Bellis was the winning pitcher, scattering 6 hits. Note: In the championship series, the visiting team won each game. Congrats to both teams on an excellent season.

Millerstown Inn 12, Pack Ratt Sports Cards 2

Millerstown took a 1-0 lead with a convincing 12-2 win over Pack Ratt. Offensively, MTI was led by Nathan Markle who was 3 for 4 with 2 homeruns. Eric McCue & Sluggo Smith were each 3 for 5 with a homerun as well. For Pack Ratt, Luke Slater & Steve Shoemaker were each 2 for 3. Kenny Bussard was the winning pitcher.

Millerstown Inn 15, Pack Ratt Sports Cards 9

Millerstown Inn advanced to the Chicora League Championship Series by defeating Pack Ratt by a score of 15-9. Pack Ratt hung in this game until the 5th inning when MTI put 5 runs on the board. Dave Tarr & Cristos Klutinoty were the top hitters for Millerstown, each going 3 for 4. Sluggo Smith added a homerun. For Pack Ratt, Doug DeFrancisis was 3 for 4 with a homerun and Luke Slater was 3 for 4 as well. Kenny Bussard pitched for the win. In the best of 5 championship series, MTI will face the winner of Hunter's Truck Sales & Ball's Distributor.

Hunter's Truck Sales 14, Ball's Distributor 9

Hunter's broke open a back and forth game with 7 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to go on to win 14-9 over Ball's Distributor in Game 1 of this Semi-Final series. Hunter's was led by Josh Behrens with a homerun, double, & single; Tyler Callihan with 3 singles; Travis Bellis with a homerun & a double; and Shawn Bellis with 2 doubles. Ball's top hitters were Heath Schreffler with 2 doubles & a single, and Danny Russo & Jeremy Loos each had a double & a single. Chris Bellis was the winning pitcher.

Ball's Distributor evened the series at 1-1 with a 16-8 victory over Hunter's. Ball's broke open a 7-5 game with 9 runs in the 6th inning to seal the victory. Danny Russo led the way with an inside the park homerun and 2 doubles. Heath Schreffler had a homerun and 2 singles. Brayden McCorry had 2 singles, and Travis Miller & Cody Gispanski each tripled. For Hunter's Truck Sales, Josh Behrens had a homerun & 2 doubles, and Shawn Bellis had 2 doubles & a single. Ball's out-hit Hunter's 17-11. Ryan Protzman was the winning pitcher. Game 3 will be at St. Wendelin's Thursday, August 6.

In the deciding Game 3, Hunter's broke open a 7-4 game with 10 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. The inning was highlighted by a Rick Belles grand slam. Hunter's went on to win 19-9. Top hitters for HTS were Tyler Callihan with a triple & 2 doubles, Josh Behrens & Joe Callihan with a double & 2 singles each, and Travis Bellis with 3 singles. For Ball's, Heath Schreffler had a 3-run homerun & a single, and Jeremy Loos had an inside the park homerun. Hunter's out-hit Ball's 21-6. Chris Bellis was the winning pitcher. Hunter's will go on to face Millerstown Inn in the best of 5 championship series next week.

Ball's was led offensively by Danny Russo with a triple, 2 doubles, & 4 RBI; Randy Bouch with a double, 2 singles, & 4 RBI; and Heath Schreffler with 2 doubles. Ryan Protzman was the winning pitcher.

Ball's closed out the series with a 12-2 victory over Secrets of Hair Design. This time, Ball's big inning was the 5th, in which they plated 7 runs. Heath Schreffler led the way with a triple, 3 singles, & 7 RBI. Danny Russo added 2 doubles & a single. Ball's out-hit Secrets 20-4. Ryan Protzman handled the pitching duties for the winners. Ball's will face Hunter's Truck Sales & Service in the Semi-Finals.

Pack Ratt took a 1-0 lead in their opening round series with an 18-10 victory over County Line Tavern. Top hitters for Pack Ratt were Matt Shaffer with a grand slam, a double, & a single; Eric Tuck with a homerun, 2 doubles, & a single; Doug DeFrancisis with a homerun & a single, and Kolby Kriess with 3 doubles & a single. Ryan McCrea had 4 singles for County Line. Dustin DeFrancisis was the winning pitcher.

Pack Ratt scored 3 runs in the top of the 7th to squeak out a 1-run victory with County Line to clinch the series. Justin Smith led the way with a homerun & a single, and Brandon Daughtry & Eric Tuck each homered. Curt Hunka had 3 singles for County Line. Dustin DeFrancisis got the win on the pitcher's mound. Pack Ratt will face Millerstown Inn in the Semi-Finals.

Hunter's needed a 10-run 5th inning to avoid the upset against Kittanning Eagles, winning Game 1 by a score of 15-9. Top hitters for Hunter's were Josh Behrens with a homerun & 2 doubles, Tyler Callihan with a double & 2 singles, and Keith Lehman with 3 singles. Andrew Scholl & Dickie Crissman each had a triple & a single for Kittanning Eagles. Tim Dietrich earned the win, pitching for Hunter's Truck Sales.

Everetts scored the game winner on a walk off single by Nick Morrow. Eric McCue, Justin Alessio, Morrow, & Everetts each had 2 hits for MTI. A Chicora team comprised of players from Hunters Truck Sales, Pack Ratt Sports Cards, Secrets of Hair Design, & No Offseason Sports won the 8th Annual Shenango Valley Memorial Day Weekend Tournament in West Middlesex, PA. In pool play, the team started the day defeating Comprehensive Children & Family Services from the Shenango Valley League by a score of 17-0. Winning pitcher Tim Dietrich allowed only 1 hit, a bunt single in the 4th inning. Also in pool play, Hunters/Pack Ratt lost to Bison Bulls of the Venango County League 17-15. In single elimination tournament play, Hunters/Pack Ratt defeated Loss Prevention Services of the Culmerville League 8-4, with the winning runs coming from a 6th inning grand slam off the bat of Justin Smith. Next, Hunters/Pack Ratt defeated fellow Chicora League team Millerstown Inn by a score of 10-8. In the championship, Hunters/Pack Ratt defeated Airways from the Venango County League 11-6. Top hitter for the team was Dave Tompkins with a .750 batting average (15 for 20), 3 homeruns, 12 runs scored & 14 RBI on the day. Other top hitters included Justin Smith (11 for 19, 1 HR), Joe Callihan (10 for 16), Shawn Bellis (10 for 16), and Josh Friel (3 triples, 1 HR). Tim Dietrich & Chris Bellis each picked up 2 wins on the day, handling the pitching duties. The tournament had a record 10 teams participating from Chicora, Culmerville, Shenango Valley, Venango County, and Dunkirk NY. Thank you to Tournament Director Ryan Briggs for his hard work on this tournament each year.

Hunter's Truck Sales & Service from the Chicora Area Softball League (with players from Pack Ratt Sports Cards, Millerstown Inn, & No Offseason Sports) won the 16th Annual Woody Keyser Tournament in Westfield, NY. Hunter's started the day with a 17-4 win over Bonar's Mayville Diner. Then proceeded to beat Kallie's Krusade from Westfield 14-7. Next the team defeated Plummer's Tavern from Erie 12-2 in the winners bracket final. Plummer's won their loser's bracket game and had to beat Hunter's twice to win the championship. It looked as if Plummer's would force the "if needed" game, when they carried a 14-4 lead into the bottom of the 5th inning. But Hunter's responded with a 12-run inning, going on to win the championship game 20-14. Top hitters for Hunter's were Sluggo Smith .800 (8 for 10, 5 HRs including 3 in the championship game), Josh Behrens .778 (7 for 9), Eric McCue .666 (10 for 15), and Stush Antoszyk .615 (8 for 13). Chris Bellis and Sluggo Smith each picked up 2 wins on the pitcher's mound. Thank you to Steve Keyser for organizing a top-notch event.

Millerstown Inn recently won the Joe Heffernan Memorial Wooden Bat Tournament in Franklin, PA. The team also included a few players from Kittanning Eagles. MTI went 4-0 in the tournament. In pool play, Millerstown defeated Hanna's Screenprinting from Franklin, PA 13-2. Then MTI faced Chicora League rival Hunter's Truck Sales and outlasted them 8-7 in 9 innings. Next, Millerstown faced tournament host Heffernan Hauling & defeated them. In the championship, it was a rematch with Hunter's. This time MTI won 8-1, after Dave Tarr broke the game open with a 2-out grand slam in the 5th inning. Richie Toy was the winning pitcher in all 4 victories.
