In Friday night’s pool play game, the Travelers defeated The Surge 14-0. Caleb Powell, on the mound for the Travelers, was impressive giving up only one hit and striking out 5 batters in the 4 inning ballgame. Powell’s effort on the mound and remarkable defensive plays by infielders Garrett Copeland, Josh Cooley, Evan Michael, and John Wesley Ray were the keys to shutting down the Surge. The Travelers hitting was right on the mark once again with 12 hits in the game. Several Travelers had notable performances at the plate in this first pool play game. Ray (2 RBIs) 2 singles and homer, Ryan Garner (3 RBIs) a double and a homerun, Powell (2 RBIs) a single, a double, and a homerun, Mattie Bolton (2 RBIs) and Cooley each added a double, Jordan Rodgers (RBI) a single, and Ross Adams and Chase Hamilton each had a RBI in the win.

In the championship game on Sunday afternoon, the Travelers’ heads-up base running and impressive hitting led to a 13-4 win over the W. TN Tigers 14’s. Ryan Garner and Reed Haggard combined for 6 strikeouts and only 1 walk in 5 innings of play. The Travelers’ offense took advantage of excessive walks and untimely errors by the Tigers’ defensive. Several Travelers were impressive at the plate including Evan Michael with a 3 RBI double and Garner and Jordan Rodgers (RBI) with a single and a double each. Josh Cooley (2 RBIs), Garret Copeland (RBI), John Wesley Ray (RBI),and Mattie Bolton (RBI) each contributed a single in the championship win.

Once again the Travelers faced the St. Louis Panthers (14’s) on Sunday in the third pool play game. Reed Matheny started off strong with 3 incredible strikeouts in the 1st inning of the game. Tight defense continued to be a factor in the game, and the Travelers held the Panthers to only 5 hits and 3 runs. Caleb Powell came on in relief of Matheny adding 4 strikeouts in 3 innings on the mound. Offensively the Travelers were on the mark with 10 hits and 12 runs in the win. Chase Hamilton (2 RBIs) contributed a double and his 16th homer of the season. Matheny (2 RBIs), Ryan Garner, and Jordan Rodgers (2 RBIs) each had a single and a double for the Travelers. Powell (RBI) scored a double, and John Wesley Ray added 2 singles. Josh Cooley (2 RBIs) and Mattie Bolton (RBI) each had single in the game. Evan Michael had an RBI in the 12-3 win against the Panthers.

The Travelers came out on top 5-3 against the Memphis Bombers 14’s in the second pool play game on Saturday. The Travelers had 7 hits in the win and managed to hold the Bombers to 6 hits in six innings of play. Exceptional defensive plays were made by Garrett Copeland, Josh Cooley, and Ryan Garner. The Bombers loaded the bases in the 5th and 6th innings but were shut down by the Travelers’ defense which was led by Haggard on the mound who came on in relief of Chase Hamilton. Hamilton (2 RBIs) ripped another awesome homer in the top of the first, Evan Michael and Jordan Rodgers each added 2 singles, and Jordan Barnes and Caleb Powel each had a single. Cooley had 2 RBIs, and Mattie Bolton had 1 RBI in the win.

In Friday night’s pool play game against the 14 year-old Panthers of St. Louis, the Travelers brought the big sticks racking up 14 hits in 5 innings of play. In the top of the first, Reed Matheny started things off with a hard-hit double followed by a powerful triple by Chase Hamilton. Caleb Powell was on the mound for the Travelers, and he shut down the Panthers in the first with 3 awesome strikeouts. The Travelers continued to take charge of the game at the plate and in the field. Tight defense throughout the game and impressive plays by infielders Evan Michael, Jordan Rodgers, and Mattie Bolton held the Panthers to only 2 runs. Great hitting in the 3rd, which included 2 doubles, 3 singles, and a “massive blast” by Ryan Garner, put 7 runs on the board for the Travelers. Powell had 4 strikeouts and gave up only 4 hits in 3 innings on the mound. Matheny, in relief, faced 6 batters, gave up 0 hits, and had 2 strikeouts in the 17-2 win over the Panthers. The Travelers were pitted against the Memphis Tigers in the championship game late Sunday afternoon. Chase Hamilton was impressive on the mound giving up only 2 hits in 6 innings. The Travelers’ remarkable defensive held the Tigers to only 2 runs in 7 innings of play. Notable defensive performances included, great plays by Mattie Bolton at shortstop, Josh Cooley at third base, Ryan Garner in centerfield, and with bases loaded in the 6th, Hamilton registered 2 strikeouts and a fly-out to end the inning. Reed Matheny came on strong in the 7th shutting down the first three hitters to end the game. The Travelers scored 8 runs on 12 hits to defeat the Tigers 8-2. Jordan Rodgers led the offense with a single, a double, and 2 RBIs. Other hitters include: John Wesley Ray, 1 double; Bolton, 1 single, 1 double; Garner, 2 singles, 1 double; Cooley (2 RBIs), 1 single; Evan Michael (3 RBIs). In the Semifinals game against the St. Louis Zips, the Travelers turned out an impressive performance offensively and defensively. Ryan Garner’s awesome outing on the mound included 8 strikeouts and 0 walks in 5 innings. The Traveler defensive included outstanding plays by Jordan Rodgers at shortstop and Evan Michael at third base. Caleb Powell came on in relief of Garner in the 6th and added 3 strikeouts to the effort. The remarkable Traveler offensive put 9 hits on the board which included homeruns by Powell (RBI) and Chase Hamilton (RBI), and Garner added a double and a single. Evan Michael (RBI), Josh Cooley (RBI), Reed Matheny (RBI), John Wesley Ray, and Rodgers each had a single in the 8-1 win over the Zips.

The Travelers, facing the 13’s from Oxford in Saturday’s third pool play game, came out with hot sticks and scored 4 runs in the top of the first inning on 3 hits including a bomb over the centerfield fence by Chase Hamilton. The Travelers scored another run in the 3rd on another solo homer by Hamilton. Three doubles and a walk in the 4th added 3 more runs to the Travelers’ 5-2 lead. Reed Matheny was on the mound with an impressive performance which included 6 strikeouts and only 1 walk in 4 innings. Despite several defensive errors, which put runners in scoring position, the Travelers battled to hold Oxford to only 2 runs in 5 innings of play. Garrett Copeland and Mattie Bolton were impressive on the infield turning two timely double plays for the Travelers. Mattie Bolton, in relief of Matheny, added 2 strikeouts and gave up no runs in the Travelers’ 9-2 win over Oxford. Travelers’ hitters shared in the offensive showing: Hamilton (4 RBIs) 2 HR, Bolton (RBI) 2 doubles, Ryan Garner 2 doubles, Jordan Barnes (2 RBIs) 1 double, Copeland (RBI) 1 double, Jordan Rodgers (RBI) 1 single and 1 double, Josh Cooley 1 single, Evan Michael 1 single.

In the second pool play game, the Travelers faced the Saltdogs of Central Arkansas. Caleb Powell was on the mound for the Travelers striking out 4 batters and holding the Saltdogs to 2 hits in the game’s 2 innings of play. The Travelers’ offensive was very productive as they took advantage of defensive errors and excessive walks; some very good hitting also helped lead the team to a 15-0 win. Reed Matheny posted his first homer of the season with a Grand Slam over the left-centerfield fence. Chase Hamilton (RBI) and Ryan Garner (2 RBIs) each had a double, and Josh Cooley (2 RBIs), Mattie Bolton (RBI), Matheny (5 RBIs), and Garner each added single in the Travelers’ second win of the tournament.

The Travelers opened pool play Friday night against the Jr. Mustangs taking advantage of 6 walks and 2 hits, including a powerful homerun by Caleb Powel (3 RBI), which put 6 runs on the board in the 1st inning. Ross Adams, on the mound for the Travelers, had a shaky start walking the first two batters, but two strike outs and a ground ball ended the 1st inning of play with the Travs up 6-1. The Travelers continued to put runs on the board collecting 10 hits and 17 more runs in the next 2 innings. The Travelers’ defense held strong for all of the 3 innings of play. Adams, with Mattie Bolton in relief, combined for 7K and 0 hits. Along with Powell’s 1st inning homerun, the Travelers were extremely productive at the plate. Leading the offense was Chase Hamilton with 2 impressive homers and 5 RBIs. Josh Cooley (3 RBIs) added 2 doubles, and Jordan Barnes (2 RBIs), Reed Matheny (3RBIs), and Adams each added a double. Evan Michael (3 RBIs) also contributed 2 singles in the 23-1 win over the Mustangs.

In the championship game on Memorial Day, the Travelers finished their impressive weekend by handing the Mt. Juliet Bearcats a 13-0 loss. Ryan Garner turned in another stellar pitching performance shutting down the Bearcats’ offense giving up only 1 hit in 4 innings on the mound. Reed Matheny came in strong to close out the game. The Travelers’ offensive attack began strong with a walk by Ryan Garner, a hard-hit single by Chase Hamilton (RBI), and a huge homer to right field by Ross Adams which gave the Travelers a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. The team continued to battle at the plate with 10 hits including doubles by Garner (2RBIs) and Reed Haggard (2RBIs). Jordan Rodgers (RBI) added 2 singles in the effort. Garrett Copeland, Jordan Barnes, and Ross Adams (3RBIs) had one single each in the win. Defensively, the Travelers were right on the mark with outstanding plays by infielders Mattie Bolton, Copeland, and Caleb Powell.

With two wins under their belts, the Travelers next faced the Jackson Coyotes on Sunday afternoon. New-comer, Reed Haggard, took the mound for the Travs with a dominating pitching performance allowing only 2 hits with 6K in 5 innings. Offensively, the Travelers were more themselves combining for 9 hits and only 1 K in 5 innings of play. Contributing to the offensive effort were: Chase Hamilton with 1 double and 1 triple (2 RBIs), Haggard with a double (2 RBIs), and Ross Adams had 2 singles (2RBIs). Garrett Copeland, Jordan Barnes, Caleb Powell (RBI), and Reed Matheny (2RBIs) added a single each. The Traveler defense needs mentioning because of some awesome defensive plays that were made by infielders Copeland and Mattie Bolton, as well as an outstanding play made by Jordan Rodgers in deep left center. The Travelers worked together to defeat the Coyotes 9-0.

In the first game scheduled on Saturday against the Huntsville Panthers, Caleb Powel was on the mound in his 1st outing in almost six weeks (due to injury). He worked hard and had a strong 2 2/3 innings with 3K and gave up no runs. He was relieved by Ross Adams and Mattie Bolton. The pitching effort combined for 6 K and gave up only 4 hits in the 5 inning shut out. Offensively, the Travs were slow going with only two runs in the first 3 innings. Three strong hits in the 4th added 3 more runs, and the Travelers defeated the Huntsville Panthers 5-0. Jordan Rodgers (2RBIs) and Mattie Bolton (RBI) had hot bats each going 2 for 2. Jordan Barnes’s double and singles by Reed Matheny and Adams rounded out the offensive play.

After a week off and some much needed rest, the Travelers came out in prime Travelers fashion Friday night in Cordova, TN, posting a 14-2 win over the Semo Stix. Chase Hamilton had 7 K in an excellent performance on the mound and Reed Matheny came on strong in relief to end the game. Ryan Garner led the offensive attack with a 3 for 4 performance including 2 doubles. Adding to the offensive performance were Jordan Rodgers with 2 hard-hit singles, Hamilton with a single and a double (2RBI), and Caleb Powell, Evan Michael, Garrett Copeland, Jon Wesley Ray, and new-comer, Reed Haggard each added a single to the effort. Ross Adams hit his 8th homer of the season and contributed 4 RBIs in the Travelers win.

Heavy rains blew into Birmingham on Saturday night resulting in a 3-hour delay on Sunday morning. This would be the Traveler's second attempt at qualifying for the Elite 24 which will be held in Orlando later this summer. The Travelers came out early and strong against the Gameday Athletics. With timely hitting and a gutsy 2-out bunt by Garrett Copeland to help crank up an uncommonly slow Traveler offense, the Travelers took a 5-0 lead going into the bottom of the 3rd. Ryan Garner worked hard on the mound for the Travelers, as well as relief pitchers Jordan Barnes and Chase Hamilton, but the Travelers were unable to hold onto the lead. The Travelers were denied the victory by the Athletics 6-5 in extra innings. Ross Adams contributed to the offensive effort going 2 for 2 with a 2-run homerun and a single. Hamilton was also 2-2 with two strong hits. Josh Cooley, JW Ray, Reed Matheny, and Ryan Garner each had a single in the Traveler loss.

The Travelers entered the 3rd game of pool play needing a win against the GA Bandits to gain a high seed for Sunday’s bracket play. Once again a very inconsistent Traveler’s team showed up. Excessive defensive errors, untimely walks, and good hitting by the Bandits gave the Travelers their 2nd loss of the day. Garrett Copeland was on the mound for the Traveler’s, and Jordan Rodgers came on in relief. Caleb Powell, Jordan Barnes, Chase Hamilton, Ross Adams, and Ryan Garner each had one hit in this disappointing loss.

In an uncharacteristic performance, the Travelers were defeated in Game #2. Unproductive offensive and defensive errors resulted in a 10-1 loss to the Knoxville Stars. Jordan Barnes and Mattie Bolton were on the mound for the Travelers. Ryan Garner collected the only hit of the game.

The Travelers opened pool play Friday night against the Vipers taking advantage of 4 walks and 4 hits which put 6 runs on the board in the 1st inning. They were able to hold on to the lead with good defense and 3 strong innings from Chase Hamilton. Reed Matheny came on in relief combining with Hamilton for 8 strikeouts. Garrett Copeland contributed with a 2 for 2 performance at the plate. Evan Michael added a hit, along with Jordan Rodgers and Ryan Garner. Matheny scored a double in the Traveler’s win.

Travelers 10 Gameday Athletics 3 Record: 19-4 Pitchers: Chase Hamilton, Jordan Barnes Homeruns: None
The Gameday Athletics defeated the Rocket City Stingers to advance to the championship game vs the Memphis Travelers. Chase Hamilton started and Jordan Barnes relieved. The two combined for 14 strikeouts. The Athletics jumped out to an early lead but the Travelers fought back as they continued to hit the ball well throughout the lineup. The offensive attack was led by Josh Cooley who was 4-4 with two singles, two doubles, and five RBI's. As many players were injured or had sore arms, this championship was a total team effort. The top story of the weekend would have to be the strong hitting game after game throughout the lineup.

The semifinal game pitted the Memphis Travelers against the East Cobb Astros, the Road to Disney Super NIT Champions. The Traveler defense was tough behind four solid innings of pitching by Ryan Garner. Chase Hamilton pitched the last inning. The Astros kept fighting back but the Travelers were not to be denied. The Travelers again hit the ball well throughout the lineup. Hamilton hit his ninth homerun of the season and Caleb Powell's walk off grand slam put the exclamation point on the game!

Travelers 15 West Cobb Vipers 6 Record: 17-4 Pitchers: Ross Adams, Jordan Rodgers, Jordan Barnes Homeruns: Chase Hamilton (8), Ryan Garner (3), Josh Cooley (1), Caleb Powel (1)The Travelers entered the championship round as the number two seed behind the Rocket City Stingers. The quarterfinal game was a rematch with the West Cobb Vipers. Ross Adams had a strong outing on the mound and was initially relieved by Jordan Rodgers and then Jordan Barnes. The Vipers hung in the game closing the Traveler lead to 7-5 but the Traveler bats reignited and pulled away late. Four players hit homeruns: Hamilton, Garner, Cooley, and Powell.

The third pool game got off to a rocky start. Garrett Copeland started off on the mound. A few errors later, the Travelers found themselves down 4-0 after the first inning. Matt Bolton came in in relief and the Traveler defense tightened up. It took a little while to get the bats hot, but in the end the Travelers scored 15 runs to take the win.

Evan Michael started off on the mound with Jordan Rodgers coming on in relief. Offensively, the entire team hit the ball well with no Travelers striking out. The offensive attack was led by Ross Adams with two homeruns and five RBI's.

The Travelers opened pool play with a 6-1 victory over the West Cobb Vipers. Chase Hamilton got the start. He held the Vipers scoreless and recorder four strikeouts. Hamilton also homered to help his cause. Reed Matheny was impressive in relief. The Vipers lone run came on a solo homer.

The Travelers behind 4 shut out innings from Ryan Garner were unable to hold on to a 3-0 lead by allowing 7 runs in the sixth and eventually falling to the Bolton Wildcats 14's.
With the loss the Travelers were eliminated from championship play and had a rare Sunday afternoon off. |

The loss gives the Travelers a 1-1 pool record with a must win afternoon game against the Bolton Wildcats 14's to advance to championship play. |

Ryan Garner was superb on the mound but the Traveler defense again was uncharacteristic and allowed the Monarchs to comeback from a 3-1 deficit in the final third inning to tie the game at 3-3. The game went into the fourth with international rules prevailing. The Travelers were unable to push any runs across in the top of the inning while the Monarchs were able to get a base hit sending the Travelers to their first defeat of the year.
With the loss the Travelers were sent to the losers bracket to face Michigan Sports Academy. |

On a cloudy cold morning the Travelers behind six shutout innings from Daniel Nordwall and a bomb from Chase Hamilton defeat the Diamondbacks 9-2. Garrett Copeland closed out the victory with a inning of relief.
With the victory the Travelers clinched the #1 seed in Pool A with the rest of the tournament in doubt to heavy rains in the area. |

Despite uncharacteristic defense contributing to the Yorkville Reds plating three runs in the top of the first, the Travelers regained their composure on their way to a 12-4 victory in the opening game of the Rendezvous Early Bird Classic taking place at Snowden Grove. The Travelers are playing in the 14u Division of the tournament.
Chase Hamilton pitched three strong innings while the Travelers got another excellent relief performance from Reed Matheny finished the last two innings as the Travelers win in five innings. Ross Adams kick started the Traveler offense with a two run inside the park homer. The Travelers raise their overall record to 9-0 for the season. |

The game was a match up of two premier lefthanders with Ryan Garner for the Travelers against Reed Haggard of the Stix. They did not disappoint as both pitchers brought their dominating stuff.
The Stix jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a two run homer over the right field fence. The Travelers manufactured a run in the bottom half of the inning to make the score 2-1. The score would remain until the bottom of the fourth until Chase Hamilton with Matt Bolton on base took Haggard deep to give the Travelers a 3-2 lead and ended Haggard's day on the mound. Ross Adams greeted with the new reliever with a bomb of his own as back to back homeruns propel the Travelers to a 5-2 win.

The Travelers captured the tournament title by jumping out to a 6-0 lead and holding on for a 8-3 victory on a cold Sunday night. Ryan Garner contributed with his second homerun of the day and the Traveler pitching staff behind Chase Hamilton, Evan Michael, and Jordan Barnes combined for six scoreless innings.
For the tournament Ross Adams, Garner, and Hamilton contributing two homeruns each. Eleven different Traveler pitchers turned in dominating performances on the mound combining for four shut outs as the Travelers out scored their opponents 50-4 for the tournament. |

The Travelers offense was pretty much lethargic as a whole except for a Ross Adams Grand Slam which gave the Travelers a 6-1 lead. Jordan Rodgers was stellar in relief of Matheny by pitching out of a bases loaded one out jam in the third and followed with a scoreless fourth as the Travelers cruise to victory in four innings. |
