Semi-Final - Canal 7  Newark National Blue 4
The Gold team won against Newark National Blue today 7-4 behind anther great pitching effort by Matthew Bennighoff (complete game in 69 pitches with 2Ks and 1BB).   This was only possible due to a tremendous defensive effort by the whole team.  Some key outs were recorded by Ethan Matthews, Colin Klapinski, Jake Graham and Elijah Nardinocchi.   Brayden Earl supplied the offensive pop by knocking in 4 RBIs.  Canal Gold will play Naamans Red on Monday for the championship!

Canal 10YO Baseball All Stars
Manager - Mark Luszcz
Coaches - Stephen Brady, Michael Klepacki
Record - 7-2

Game 1 - Canal 14  Wilmington 0
Chase Fleming threw a dominating 4 inning, 9 strikeout perfect game.  Canal's many offensive stars included Miguel Herb (3-3, 2 2Bs, 3 RBI), Cameron Coco (3-3, 5 RBI) and Fleming (2 2Bs).  Nick Farraj and Rey Carrier also added extra base hits for Canal as they head to the 2nd round next Friday.

Game 2 - Canal 17  Naamans 2
Chase Fleming threw his second complete game of the tournament with a 17-2 victory over Naamans.  The Canal bats were on fire as every player got on base at least once.  Several players had multi-hit games (Nick Farraj, Miguel Herb, Chase Fleming, Cameron Coco, Drew Brady, and John Klepacki), in addition to several hard hit balls for doubles (Rey Carrier, Nick Farraj, Miguel Herb, and John Klepacki).  The Canal defense was also rock solid.  Some of the outstanding plays included strong infield plays by Anthony Rivera, JT Wingo, and Jackson Luszcz, and a diving catch in centerfield by Cameron Coco.

Game 3 - Canal 12  Brandywine 7
Canal came from behind to win a tough fought, back-and-forth game against Brandywine, 12-7.  Canal again started strong with 4 in the first and another in the second and went into the 4th inning up 5-0.  Then the Brandywine bats came alive as they capped off a 7 run 4th inning with a grand slam.  Canal immediately battled back with 7 runs of their own in the bottom of the 4th, which turned out to be the last runs of the game.  Chase Fleming pitched strong and Miguel Herb threw two perfect innings including 3 strike outs to clinch the win.  Sports Center worthy defensive plays likely were the difference in the game, including a diving catch by Cam Coco which started a triple play, and a great running catch in centerfield by Rey Carrier.  Canal advances to the championship game next Wednesday.

Canal 5  Brandywine 3 --  Canal District 2 Winners
CHAMPS!  Canal again fought from behind to defeat a formidable Brandywine team 5-3.  All runs from both teams were scored in the 3rd inning.  Brandywine opened the 3rd with two singles and a double and also cashed in on some unusal Canal defensive miscues to take a 3-0 lead.  Once again the Canal boys rose to the occasion by putting up 5 in the bottom of the 3rd, led by Rey Carrier (double), Chase Fleming (2 RBIs), Cam Coco (double, 2 RBIs) and Jack Luszcz (RBI).  Sameer German and Matt Speicher also had hits for Canal.  Miguel Herb pitched great, giving up 2 earned runs in 4 2/3 innings with 4 Ks, and Chase Fleming got the save, giving up no hits in 1 1/3 innings.

Canal 13  MOT 1
Miguel Herb's second inning GRAND SLAM sparked Canal's offense in an electrifying 13-1 victory over MOT in the opening round of the 10 YO Delaware State All-Star Tournament.  John Klepacki, Rey Carrier, and Jack Luszcz had two RBIs each, and JT Wingo had two hits.  Chase Fleming got the win, giving up only 1 run on 1 hit in 3 2/3 innings with 6 strikeouts, and Nick Farraj finished MOT off in the final 1 1/3 innings giving up no runs or hits and striking out 3.

Milton 9  Canal 6
Canal lost a tough fought, back and forth game 9-6.   After two scoreless innings, Milton got on the board with 1 in the 3rd and Canal took the lead 2-1 in the bottom.  Milton then jumped up 5-2 in the fourth, and again Canal battled back to tie it in the bottom of the inning, and then got 1 in the 5th to take a 6-5 lead into the 6th.  A Milton sac fly and then a 3-run homer put Milton in the lead 9-6.  Canal had a shot to get back in the game again in the bottom of the inning with bases loaded and one out, but this time fell short with the go ahead run at the plate.

Canal 11  MOT 6
Canal advances to the Championship Round of the State Tournament with a decisive 11-6 victory over MOT.  After jumping up 3-0 in the bottom of the first, led by a John Klepacki home run, Canal fell behind after MOT put up 6 in the 3rd, including a heart wrenching grand slam.  Once again the Canal boys battled back, scoring 2 in the bottom of the 3rd, 3 in the 4th and 3 more insurance runs in the 5th to seal the victory.  Nick Farraj pictched two excellent innings before running into problems in the 3rd, and then Drew Brady held MOT scoreless through the final three innings, giving up only 2 hits and 2 walks.  Among other strong defensive plays, Chase Fleming started two double plays (L6-3 and 6U-3).  Sameer German was 2 for 2 and somehow managed to score from second on a wild pitch.  Drew Brady and Cam Coco also had 2 hits each.

Canal 11  Milton 1
The Canal boys avenged their one loss to date by soundly defeating Milton 11-1 in four innings.  Chase Fleming pitched great for Canal, giving up no earned runs and only 3 hits.  Canal offensive highlights included homeruns by Cameron Coco and Miguel Herb, and RBI hits by John Klepacki, Matthew Speicher, Jack Luszcz, and Nick Farraj.  Rey Carrier, Aidan Gray, Sameer German, Drew Brady, and JT Wingo also had hits for Canal.  Canal advances to the State Championship Game tomorrow.

Milton 3  Canal 1
The boys came up just short in a pitching duel tonight, losing to Milton 3-1.  Chase Fleming's solo homer in the first produced Canal's only run of the game.  Canal's six other hits on the night were spread out over the rest of the game, leaving five runners on base.  Sameer German had two of the hardest hit balls of the night for either team, but Milton's defense robbed him of hits both times.  Miguel Herb pitched excellent through 5 and a 1/3 and Rey Carrier struck out two in relief.
