Welcome To The Great City of Downey

We are home to where the Apollo Space Program began its journey to the stars. Downey is where you can find the world’s oldest McDonalds restaurant and the site of the first Taco Bell eatery. This is the city where the pop recording artists "The Carpenters" were inspired with many hit records. Today, our city is admired for its strong retail base with quality housing. The City of Downey is also know for its volunteerism and active service clubs. The Razorback President, Louis Morales was appointed in 2009 by the City Council to serve on the Downey Planning Commission representing the residents of the 3rd District.

Situated 12 miles southeast of the Los Angeles Civic Center, Downey is only five miles from Orange County, and about 10 miles from the beautiful Pacific coastline. Conveniently located near several major freeways, the city is an ideal home base from which to take advantage of the business resources and hundreds of cultural and recreational activities in Southern California.

The Downey City Council meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber of Downey City Hall located at 11111 Brookshire Avenue, Downey 90241.  The Planning Commission meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month at 6:30 pm in the City Council Chambers at City Hall.
