Johnny Deaton in 1978

The Eagles Johnny Deaton drives to the basket against Henryville in 1978.  Deaton was All-MSC in 1979 and when he graduated he was both the Eagles career assists leader and single game assists leader. His trademark was dribbling the ball very low to the floor driving defenders crazy.

1976

Keith Sexton (# 40) grabbing the rebound in this 1976 photo was All-MSC in 1975 & 76.  Ed Taylor #54 was All-MSC in 1978 and Mike Barrett on the right wearing # 44 was All-MSC in 1977.  The Eagles 3-year record from 1976-78 was 44-22, which included, 2-Sectional Runner-Up's in open class basketball, 3-SAC Championships and 2-Holiday Tournament Championships.  The 1976 SAC title was Austin's first conference championship in basketball in the school's history. All 3 players were named to All-SAC teams during this period as well. (Photo by Grady Gunter - Austin Crothersville News)
