1994 - Austin Indiana - Austin Postmaster Carl T. Rose

Carl Rose was in charge of the Austin Post Office from 1972-1999.  Longer than anyone in the history of the Austin Post Office, which was established in 1854.  Carl was a 1957 graduate of Austin High School.

From left to right in the photo: A.C. Trulock, Mrs. Jeanette Royce Winkleman, Miss Stella Cathcart, M.C. “Mike” Mann, A.W. Garriott and Phillip Curtis. Austin Post Office occupied the ground floor while Masonic Lodge maintained the 2nd floor. 

Building faced the west but was on the east side of the Pennsylvania Railroad. It was on the south side of Highway 256 (Main Street). (If the building were still standing it would be in front of the Main Street Package store close to the highway.)
