14 & U Battle at Fort Niagara Rules 2009
1. Players must not have reached 15th Birthday before January 1, 2009
2. ASA Official Rules followed with following exceptions: Teams can bat up to two (2) Extra Hitters in their lineup. Those players can be substituted on defense freely during the course of the game.
3. Teams who drop below nine batters for any reason will be recorded as an out in every slot until nine batters is reached.
4. Any batter in the original lineup that cannot take her at-bat must be substituted for or an out will be recorded.
5. Proof of age must be available upon request.
6. Players can only play for one team entered in tournament throughout the Tournament.
7. Home teams will be decided by a coin flip.
8. All teams must report an accurate score to the scorekeeper.
9. Teams may use ten minutes of infield practice in between games, as long as it doesn’t interfere with grounds crew work or scheduled games.
10. Games will be seven innings in length.
11. No new inning can begin after two hours has elapsed from the first pitch.
12. International Tie Breaker rules will begin at the Two Hour mark in the event of a tie game, or anytime after the 7th inning. (Bench player or player who made last out in previous inning begins on 2nd base)
13. The 12-10-8 Run Mercy Rule is in effect (12 runs after three innings, 10 runs after four innings, 8 runs after five innings)
14. Seedings will be determined by win-loss record.
15. Tie Breakers will be.
a. Head-to-Head
b. Least Runs Allowed
c. Run Differential
d. Out-of-hat
16. The Semi Finals and Finals game will have no time limit.
17. All Protests must be resolved by a Tournament Official at the time of protest.
18. There is a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY towards unruly and threatening behavior. Any Coach, Player or Parent ejected from a game will be banned from the park for the remainder of the tournament.
All Game-Play rules not specifically addressed in these rules must be addressed during ground-rules, with the Tournament Director, and in accordance with ASA Rules.

12 & U Battle at Fort Niagara Rules 2009
1. All Rules will be strictly ASA except for those rules mentioned here.
2. No Inning can begin after two hours has passed, used at the umpires discretion with field availability in mind.
3. This is a B Level Tournament, all players must be listed on the team roster before the tournament.
4. No Rostered player may be listed on any “A” Level teams’ current roster.
5. Any Player listed on multiple rosters will be classified by the ranking of the highest rostered team.
6. Players that appear on an “A” team roster may not appear in any games in the Lewiston 12U Battle at Fort Niagara Tournament.
7. “A” Teams will be determined by Metro Girls Softball Officials, Niagara Frontier Softball League Officials, and Western New York Travel Softball Officials.
8. Girls listed on an “A” team who may still be rostered but no longer play for that “A” team may appeal before Thursday, June 11, and must have a waiver from the Head Coach of the “A” team stating that that player no longer plays for the “A” team and/or did not make the roster.
9. All Teams may choose to bat eleven (11) players in their lineup, nine (9) defensive players and two (2) Extra Hitters who may be substituted defensively without penalty. All defensive players must be in the batting lineup.
10. Games will be seven (7) innings in length.
11. Any inning that begins in a Tie Situation after 2:00 will be played as extra innings using the International Tie Breaker Rules (Bench player OR last player to make an out will start the inning on second base.)
12. 12-10-8 Mercy rule is in effect. Any team leading by 12 runs after three innings, 10 runs after four innings or 8 runs after five innings will be awarded a mercy victory.
13. The top two teams in each division advance to the Championship Round. In case of a tie, the following tiebreakers will be used:
a. Head-to-Head record
b. Least runs allowed per inning (Runs allowed divided by number of defensive innings played)
c. Run Differential
d. Runs Scored per inning.
14. All teams must use three outfielders at all times.
15. All players are required to slide on close plays. Penalty for contact at a base is an automatic out. A close play is defined as any play where a player not sliding effects the ability of the defensive player to make the play, including receiving a throw.
16. If at any time a team drops below nine (9) players, the team must take an out for that number of players below nine (9). An out must also be taken at any point in the order where an original member of the lineup is not available to bat and a Sub is not available to bat. (IE, a team who chooses to bat their entire ten-player lineup, who then lose a player to injury or ejection)
17. Stealing is open at all bases, including past ball plays at home.
18. All protests must be resolved by a Tournament Official at the time of protest. Protest fee is $15.
19. The Starting Pitcher may return to the mound in the game she was removed from once, no relief pitcher can return to the mound at any point in the game.
20. Any player substituted from the starting lineup may reenter the game once, and only in the same slot that she vacated or in a place in the batting order that ensures that the player will not bat in a place in the lineup higher than she vacated. IE, if a team bats ten players, any player re-entering the game must be placed in a spot that bats more than ten places from the spot vacated. Substitutes cannot reenter the game once they have been removed from the game.
21. There will be a ZERO-TOLERENCE POLICY for all coaches, players, and spectators in regards to abuse of game officials. An ejection from a game is an ejection from the tournament.
22. There is no dropped third strike.
23. Any rules not specifically addressed in the amended tournament rules will be referred to the 2009 ASA Standard Rule Book.

10 & U Battle at Fort Niagara Rules 2009
1. Tournament will be played Divisional Round-Robin. Once every team plays each team in their division, top two teams with the best record from each division will play for Tournament Championship, and the bottom two teams will play for the Tier Two Championship.
2. Tie Breakers will be as follows
a. Head-to-Head match up
b. Least runs allowed per inning.
c. Run Differential per inning.
d. Least Runs Allowed Total .
e. Run Differential Total (all opponents)
3. A mercy win will be given to the winning team if after
a. Three (3) complete innings the team is up by 15 runs
b. Four (4) complete innings the team is up by 12 runs
c. Five (5) complete innings the team is up by 10 runs
d. Six (6) complete innings the team is up by 10 runs
4. No new inning may begin after two (2) hours have accrued from the time of the first pitch. There is a maximum of (7) innings.
5. Only a Starting Pitcher can return to the mound after that pitcher has been removed from the Pitcher Position.
6. Runners may steal second and third base. No runner may leave the base until the pitch has left the pitchers hand. Runners who leave the base early will be given one team warning and returned to the base, subsequent infractions will be called OUT.
7. There will be no stealing home plate on a past ball or otherwise in any situation. Runners must be hit or walked home. All runners remain in jeopardy at any base on a past ball. (IE a player forgets you can’t steal home, crosses the plate, and is then tagged out)
8. Teams can only steal one base at a time. There is no penalty for an overthrow on a steal attempt.
9. All teams will bat their entire team. In the event of an injury or illness during a game, a player who is forced to leave the lineup will be skipped with no penalty. If a player is ejected from a game, or a team drops under ten (10) players, an out will be recorded when that players spot in the lineup comes to bat.
10. When a player is removed from the lineup with an injury or illness, they are not allowed to return for the duration of the game.
11. All teams will field four outfielders. At no time may the fourth outfielder become an infielder in any shift. All outfielders must play outside of the framework of the infield. (All infields are skinned)
12. The Head Coach and the Head Coach only can ask the umpire for an interpretation of rules or Protest any play. In a protest situation, the game must be stopped until a ruling is made on the play by a Tournament Official. That ruling is final.
13. If a game should go into extra innings, the international tie-braker will be used. (The last out of the previous inning starts on 2nd base).
14. Secondary Battle Mercy Rule: A team may only score seven (7) runs in any given inning in every inning except for the final inning (6th) and all subsequent extra innings. Players who score the eighth or ninth runs on a continued action play will NOT be counted on the score tally.
15. Any rule not explicitly mentioned in the Tournament Rules will be referred to the Standard USA Softball Rulebook.
ABOVE ALL, the Battle at Fort Niagara 10U Tournament Rules are formulated for the enjoyment of developing Softball Teams. We expect all coaches, players, and fans to enjoy the game and help us create an enjoyable atmosphere for all teams involved. Abusive behavior to ANYBODY in the park will not be tolerated.
