2007 CCWA Championships
September 3, 2007 --
Game One: Brewers Score twelve runs in the fifth to take game one.
Lexington Brewers team captain, Jim Hewey, hit two homeruns and North MVP Timmy Kramer added one to lead the Brew crew to a win. Kramer pitched well to earn the win while Josh Philpott takes the loss for the Penguins. Josh Burckhardt homered for the Penguins. Brewers take a 1-0 lead in the series.
Game Two: Penguins take game two behind Burck's amazing all-around play.
Josh Burckhardt hit his league lead-tying 12th homerun of the season to lead the Penguins to victory in game two. Burckhardt also pitched a great game allowing only one run while striking out 13. Brian Eyer takes the loss for the Brewers. This series now heads to Jones Field for games 3 & 4 tied up at one game a piece.
Game Three: Brewers take game three behind Hewey hitting for the cycle and Kramer's dominant pitching.
The end of this game was back and forth with the Brewers striking last. Down 5-2 in the top of the fifth, Josh Burckhardt hit a grand slam to put the Penguins up 6-5. In the bottom of the inning Jim Hewey hit a two run shot to give the lead back to the Brewers. The Penguins were able to get on base in the top of the sixth but Timmy Kramer shut them down to earn the victory for the Brew crew. Josh Burckhardt takes the loss for the Penguins. The Brewers take a two game to one lead in the series.
Game Four: Penguins force game five after winning by eighteen runs in the third inning.
The Vancouver Penguins' bats came alive in this game. Along with Brewer pitcher Brian Eyer's control problems, this game was over in three innings. Josh Burckhardt hit another grand slam to lead the Penguins. Vancouver pitcher Erik Williamson hit his first CCWA homerun to go along with the victory. Timmy Kramer hit a homerun to score for the Brew crew. Now the series moves back to Portland for game 5 all tied up.
Game Five: The Vancouver Penguins win 13-6 to earn their first CCWA Championship.
Josh Burckhardt once again raised the level of his game by hitting two home-runs and two triples while driving in ten RBIs. He also pitched well giving up six runs to earn the win. Erik Williamson played decent for the Vancouver Penguins who are CCWA Champions for 2007.
How they got there; the Vancouver Penguins
August 5, 2007 - DaVinci Field - In the Southern Division Playoffs, the Vancouver Penguins kept their hot play going and swept the Laurelhurst Pirates to advance to the CCWA Championships.
In game one the Penguins struck first and held onto their lead. This one had the makings of a pitcher's duel with Josh Philpott going against Eric Keele. It was back and forth until the third inning when a couple of walks and a big swing by Josh Burckhardt for a grand slam put the Penguins on the board. Ed Bert would come in as a relief pitcher in the fourth and go the last two innings, giving up two more runs. The Pirates scored two runs in the top of the sixth on a double by Eric Keele. Josh Philpott of the Penguins gets the win, Eric Keele takes the loss for the Pirates.
In game two, Josh Burckhardt slammed the door on the Pirates season. Josh Burckhardt threw a great game for the Vancouver Penguins allowing no runs on two hits for the win. Josh Philpott and Erik Williamson had back-to-back, run scoring doubles in the third to put the Penguins on the board. In the fourth Philpott hit a homerun to further put the game away. Ed Bert takes the loss for the Pirates who were shocked to see there season come to an end.
