Parent Informaion

Exeter Babe Ruth (13-15)

Exeter enters it's second year of chartering as our own Babe Ruth league and inviting our former Great Bay partners to join (Sanborn, Stratham & Newmarket). There are no tryouts. All players are placed on a team.

Senior Babe Ruth (16-18)
Exeter's Senior Babe Ruth relationship with the Seacoast Babe Ruth league is unchanged.

Seacoast Babe Ruth is the governing body which oversees the league Exeter plays in.  In 2011, the league  included teams from Exeter, Stratham, Portsmouth and Lamprey River.  The season doesn’t start until mid-June and practices do not start until the high school season ends. We will likely play a 12 game schedule and at least 2 playoff games.  Schedule info will be posted as it is known.

Seacoast Babe Ruth sends its Division winners to the Babe Ruth All-Star tournament.   So, to participate in All-Stars we would have to win our division.  The Division winner can consider asking players from other teams to play on the All-Star team, but it is not mandatory that they do so.

Key dates
See top of page.
Week of 4/15 - practices may begin at coache's discretion. Practices will be 2-3 per week depending on the coach's schedule.
Mid May – The regular season begins. Final schedule will be completed on April 15.
Season and playoffs are over by July 4. Schedule finalized by mid-April.

Fields
We expect most 13yo home games to be played at CMS or Brentwood. 14/15 year-old games will be at the EHS JV field. Practices will also be on these fields.

CMS & EHS players
We encourage all players to try-out for the school teams - baseball or any another sport. Expectations for school players are as follows:

-          School team commitment comes first. Players have made a commitment to the school teams and others were cut for them to make the team. We expect players to honor all school team commitments.

-          Participation in any Babe Ruth activity is optional until the school season is completed. There is no penalty for missing babe Ruth time during the school team season.

-          Pitchers for a school team are not allowed to pitch in any Babe Ruth practice or game until the school year is over.

Uniform & Equipment
Same as EJBL. All players provide their own GRAY pants. EJBL provides the hat, shirt, socks and equipment. Metal cleats are allowed in BR. Plastic are fine too. As always protective cups are MANDATORY.

2012 Bat Regulation
Babe Ruth Division (ages 13-15) - The bat may not exceed 34” in length, and the bat barrel may not exceed 2 5/8” in diameter.  All aluminum/alloy barrel bats and all composite handle (only) aluminum/alloy barrels are allowed.  Only composite barrel bats certified and marked BBCOR .50 will be allowed.  Wood barrel bats conforming to the specifications of Official Baseball Rule 1.10 are allowed.

All-Stars
There are all-star teams for each of the 3 age groups: 13, 14 & 15. The team is made up of kids from all our member towns. The tournaments are played in July.

EHS JV field is reserved for Babe Ruth 14/15 use.
CMS field is reserved for Babe Ruth 13yo use.
Brentwood field is available for all Babe Ruth use.

Field Care

We are all responsible for the proper care of our fields. Have the kids participate in their care. Thank you for your cooperation and support.

- Treat the fields with care. We are guests.  We may use any field equipment at the fields, such as L screens and hitting mats. The screens have been hand built and repaired so use care when handling them.

- When taking batting practice on the grass, use the hitting and pitching mats.

- Store all screens and mats next to the woods. Do not just leave in on the grass as it causes the grass to die. We have been placing the mats on the legs of the big square screen. This keeps the screen from falling down, which would, over time, cause it to break.

- ALWAYS rake home plate, the pitcher’s mound and around the bases after every game or practice. This reduces puddling in the event of rain. This is a good job to give the kids or a parent, however show them how to do it.

- ALWAYS rake pitcher’s mound up toward the pitchers plate. Do NOT rake down toward the infield.

- ALWAYS rake base paths in the direction of the base path. Do NOT rake base paths toward the grass. This causes the base path to cup.

- Do NOT push water or mud onto the grass. This is the number one complaint of the school.

- Use quick dry sparingly.

- ALWAYS have players pick up trash after practices/games.

Babe Ruth Pitching Rules

Official Babe Ruth pitching rules are:

  • Pitching week runs from Monday to Sunday
  • Maximum of 7 innings per week per pitcher
  • if a pitcher pitches over 3 innings, he must have 2 days calendar days rest before pitching again. So, if Johnny pitches 3 innings, no rest needed. If he pitches 3 and a third innings on Monday, he cannot pitch again until Thursday. (2 calendar days of rest are Tuesday and Wednesday)
  • A single pitch in an inning constitutes an inning
  • A pitcher must be removed from the game (as a pitcher) on your second visit to the mound
  • A pitcher removed from pitching in the middle of an inning can not return as a pitcher in the game
  • A pitcher may move to another position after a completed inning and return later as a pitcher
Playing Rules and Policies

Exeter Babe Ruth Local League Rules

1

Official Babe Ruth League Baseball Rules and Regulations as defined in the current year rulebook apply unless modified by these local league rules:

2

Extra Hitter: Each teams option at start of game page 20. Treated as any other starter. If injury or ejection occurs and no substitutes exist then extra hitter will be lost. If a team can not field nine players then a forfeit applies.

3

No Curfew: Rule 4 Starting and Ending a Game applies.

4

10 run rule 13 prep after regulation game, 12 runs after 3 ½ inning

5

10 run rule 14/15 after regulation game.

6

Contact Rule page 19 or 62. Will apply to other bases if judged by umpire to be intentionally and maliciously crashing the defensive player.

Contact Rule- If a runner attempting to reach home plate intentionally and maliciously runs into a defensive player in the area of home plate, he will be called out and ejected from the game. The objective of this rule is to penalize the offensive team for crashing the defensive player, rather than trying to reach home plate. Obviously, this is a judgment call.

7

No slashing (swinging away after fake bunt). Penalty; batter is out, all runners return.

9

Teams must start the game with a minimum of nine players. If nine players are not available within 15 minutes of game time, the game will be declared a forfeit.

10

Protest must be communicated to the home plate umpire per official baseball rules. Any improper protest shall be null and void. The Town Rep Committee will decide within 24 hours. The committee may choose to extend the deadline in order to get an official Babe Ruth interpretation.
