The curse of the league landmark (the Garrett Drive sign)
In Spring Training 2003, Josh Smith was going after a deep fly ball, attempting to steal a homerun, but was distracted by the sign & didn't catch the ball. Ever since then every outfielder has had trouble anywhere around the landmark of the league, the Garrett Drive street sign. From William Held to Josh Smith to Greg Sowards, they've all had trouble with that sign since the curse began. "I've never had trouble catching the ball around the sign before, & I've been playing on this street for 10 yrs. I just don't get it, now when a flyball is hit there I can't help it, my attention is drawn toward the sign, no longer the ball." & so the curse continues, but will it ever be broken.
