GUWBC Tournament 2007
A record 33 teams entered into this year’s tournament – a huge thank you to all teams who entered and especially to all those who organised each team. It’s all gone for another year, after such a fantastic weekend of basketball and socialising how could I not agree to do it for another year! I wish all those unfortunate players who picked up injuries throughout the weekend a full and speedy recovery (in time for returning to Glasgow next year!)
Photos are already on Facebook and there are still many more to come!
Another huge thank you must go to our Tournament Officials – over 20 officials from across Scotland as well as our travelling refs – you are all more than welcome to come back again next year! Without your support this event would not be possible! Huge well done to those who called their first games over the weekend.

Congratulations to Saints and Greenock Pacers who managed to go undefeated in their respective women’s groups. Saints managed to see off Team ‘Stella’ Bration in their early Sunday morning semi-final, the fact that the ‘Stellas’ probably managed to drink their own body weight in alcohol the night before may have had a slight effect on the game. Sunshine managed to see off the challenge of Greenock to take their semi-final. A very closely competitive final saw Saints edge over the Sunshine!
The mixed sections proved to be closely fought – some great and very competitive sections! Director’s Cut: Take III, Saints and The Gazelles all managed to go undefeated in their groups whilst Group D was far more interesting with the eventual winners, The Corn Fed Mules, narrowly taking the top spot over Glasgow Storm in points difference.
Director’s Cut: Take III took on The Gazelles whilst in the other semi-final Saints battled it out with the Corn Fed Mules. Director’s Cut and Saints overcame their opponents to take their place in the final! This would be the Director’s first final since the 2005 tournament but Saints were last year’s finalist so we knew it would be a good game!
Some great basketball accompanied with some heated moments made the final an entertaining affair with Director’s Cut coming out the eventual winners!
Team ‘Stella’ Bration also managed to secure the 'Spirit of the Tournament' award for being hugely entertaining on and off the court! Jon Stonebridge took home the prize for best fancy dress for having the funkiest ‘fro on Friday!
Thanks again to Curlers for providing the venue for Friday night’s and allowing us to sell tickets for our fantastic raffle – I STILL have some teacakes and wafers left! The Sports Café played host to the Saturday night entertainment – big thanks to all those who bought me drinks (and thanks to those who didn’t as I’m not sure it was physically possible to consume any more!!)
Think that's enough rambling from me, if anyone has photos they would like on the website or anyone wants to make suggestions/comments about this year or next then please e-mail Tournament Director , sign our guestbook or chat online in our Forum!
Dates for next year's tournament Friday 27th – Sunday 29th June 2008.
