    Scholarship Award
    A scholarship in the amount of $500.00 will be awarded each year by the Wisconsin American Legion Baseball Association to an American Legion baseball player in accordance with the following criteria.

    1. The recipient must be a player who is in his final season of American Legion Baseball eligibility.
    2. The recipient must have plans to attend an institution of higher learning whether it be a four-year college or university, technical school or two-year school.
    3. The recipient must be a good citizen whose conduct on and off the baseball field reflects credit on himself, his family, his community and the American Legion Baseball program.

    In selecting the recipient for this award, consideration shall be given to the recipient's need. Nomination for the award shall be made by the appropriate regional director on a regular rotating basis subject to the approval of the Board of Directors. Information on applying is available from the individual Legion post or manager.




    National American Legion Baseball Scholarships
    Each year scholarships and awards are presented for players who best represent leadership, sportsmanship, high moral character and scholastic achievement.

    GEORGE W. RULON PLAYER OF THE YEAR
    By virtue of a special arrangement with officials of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, an American Legion Baseball player is selected each year as the "George W. Rulon Player of the Year." The selection is made on the basis of integrity, mental attitude, cooperation, citizenship, sportsmanship, scholastic aptitude, and general good conduct. George W. Rulon was the National Staff Coordinator who operated the American Legion Baseball Program for 25 years, until his retirement in 1986. Recipient of this award receives a total of $4,000 in scholarships. The American Legion awards a $1,000 scholarship and The Quaker Oats Company, makers of Gatorade, award an additional $3,000.

    BOB FELLER PITCHING AWARD
    American Legion Baseball's first graduate to be elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame at Cooperstown, New York was Robert Feller. Despite an active business career, Feller has continued to maintain a keen interest in the program. The National Americanism Commission salutes his participation by the presentation of this award. The selection is to the player striking out the most batters in Regional and National competition.

    JAMES F. DANIEL, JR. MEMORIAL SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD
    Presented annually to The American Legion Baseball player participating in the World Series that is determined by the Selection Committee to best represent the principles of good sportsmanship emphasized by the program.

    RAWLINGS BIG STICK AWARD
    By virtue of a special arrangement with officials of Rawlings Sporting Goods Company, an American Legion Baseball player annually receives the Rawlings "Big Stick Award" (formerly known as the Adirondack Big Stick Award) at The American Legion Baseball World Series. The presentation is made to that player who compiles the highest number of bases in Regional and National competition.

    DR. IRVIN L. (CLICK) COWGER RBI MEMORIAL AWARD
    American Legion Baseball lost a dynamic leader during the 1970 season. In his memory, the National Americanism Commission established the Dr. Irvin L. (Click) Cowger RBI Memorial Award. The recipient of this annual award, provided by the Department of Kansas, is that American Legion Baseball player who is credited with the most runs batted in by the official scorers at the respective Regional tournament and World Series.

    "LOUISVILLE SLUGGER" BATTING CHAMPION AWARD
    Since 1945, the Hillerich and Bradsby Company of Louisville, Kentucky has presented a "Louisville Slugger" trophy annually to the player compiling the highest batting average during national competition.

    JACK WILLIAMS MEMORIAL LEADERSHIP AWARD
    State Adjutant Jack Williams led the American Legion, Department of North Dakota, for 49 years prior to his death in 1967. His great love for the game of baseball was evident in his early efforts to establish American Legion Baseball as a youth citizenship-training program of The American Legion. Aware that proper adult leadership was an important ingredient of a successful program, Williams constantly encouraged qualified men to work in the program. To perpetuate Williams' memory, The American Legion, Department of North Dakota, annually presents this award to the manager and coach of the National Championship Team as representatives of the adult leadership Williams stressed during his lifetime.
