UCYSL Frequently Asked Questions

 
 
 

1.       When is Opening Day?
Opening day is April 20, 2013 and will take place at Delaine Eastin Elementary School.  Players need to arrive at the fields by 7:00am.

 

2.       When does the season begin?
 The season begins on opening day.

 

3.       How can I coach a team?
To coach in UCYSL contact doc@ucpremier.org for an interview. At the conclusion of the season UCYSL will reimburse each volunteer head coach their child’s registration fee. Only one coach per team will receive a reimbursement.

 

4.       When will I receive a phone call from the coach?
All coaches will receive their team binders which will contain their rosters on March 28, 2013.  You should receive a phone call between March 29 - April 5, 2013.

 

5.       When is practice?
Practice days and times are decided by the individual coach and will be communicated to you at the first team meeting or during the initial phone call.

 

6.       How will I know which team I'm on?
At the 1st recreational coaches meeting all coaches will receive their team roster and will call you to set up a team meeting.

 

7.       I registered my child, what happens next?
2 - 4 weeks before opening day you will receive a phone call from the team coach to setup a team meeting.

 

8.       What is the team meeting all about?
The meeting give all parents and players the chance to meet each other, decide on practice days and times, talk about opening day, give out jerseys, give out schedules (if available).

 

9.       Where are the games played?
All spring season games are played at Delaine Easton Elementary school. All fall season games are played at James Logan High school for U6-U8 age groups. The U10 age group will have games on Saturdays at Delaine Easton Elementary school (spring) James Logan high (Fall) or in Newark. U12-U14 age groups in conjunction with Newark Soccer Club and Southern Alameda Youth Soccer League (SAYSL), games are to be played on Saturdays in Union City, Newark and San Lorenzo.

 

10.    What size ball does my child need?
The U6 age group play with a size 3 ball, U8-U10 play with a size 4 ball and U12 and older play with a size 5 ball.

 

11.    Where will my child practice?
In conjunction with the City of Union City and the New Haven Unified School District, practices are held in Union City at local parks or schools determined by the league and your coach.

 

12.    How long is practice?
Practices are generally one hour in length, are offered twice a week after and generally start after working hours. The UCYSL volunteer coach determines which days of the week practices will be held and the time.

 

13.    How long does the season last?
The length of the season is between 8-10 weeks and begins on Opening Day.

 

14.    How do I know what age group my child will be in?

15.    Where can I find registration dates and times?
All dates are posted on the www.UCYSL.org website.

 

16.    Where can I get news from the league regarding events or programs?
We strongly suggest all families join the UCYSL email list to receive UCYSL bulletins and updates. Go to www.ucysl.org and click on the “Join our Email List” button and enter your information.

 

17.    Where can I find information regarding UCYSL’s competitive programs?

18.    What is Union City Premier or UC Premier?
Union City (UC) Premier is the competitive program of UCYSL.

 

19.    Who are the UCYSL Board of Directors?

20.    What Equipment will my child need?
UCYSL will provide a complete uniform for your child which includes socks, shorts and a jersey. Each player must purchase shin guards, soccer cleats, soccer ball and a UCYSL training t-shirt.

 
        21.    Does my child get an award?
                  At the conclusion of the season all UCYSL players will receive a participation award. 

 

22.    What are Training T-Shirts?
UCYSL is offering club training t-shirts in an attempt to demonstrate unity within UCYSL as well as offer cost effective training T-shirts for first time and returning players.
