USA Everett Grappling

Grappling is a modern form of wrestling that borrows elements and techniques from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Catch Wrestling, Freestyle Wrestling, Greco-Roman Wrestling and Sambo.

Grappling has been accepted as an amateur sport in its own right within the jurisdiction of the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles (FILA) under the name "Grappling". The World Grappling Committee will govern the style within the FILA umbrella. It is charged with sponsoring and promoting amateur tournaments under the International Olympic Committee banner. The first FILA World Wrestling Games to include grappling was held in Antalya, Turkey 2007.

Grappling matches last six minutes and are refereed by a referee, a judge and a mat chairman. Grapplers wear shorts and a tight shirt and are bare foot. The match is interrupted when a grappler who is in a submission situation taps the mat to let know that he or she has been defeated or when the referee considers that he or she will not be able to make it without getting hurt and pronounces the word « catch ».
